    Check Firefox 28 for vulnerabilities

Would it be wise to continue using Firefox 28? I like 28 the way it is, with some of my extensions on the navigation toolbar as well as the add-on bar. They're easy to access that way. I don't want that layout to change.
It's not wise to run an out of date browser without knowing about any issues around vulnerabilities that exist.

See: Vulnerability Report: Mozilla Firefox 28.x

Currently it looks okay. I do run at least one out of date browser for my own reasons but take additional security measures.

To those of you who installed the Classic Theme Restorer, did you follow this instruction

It is recommended to switch to a new clean profile (or at least delete 'localstore.rdf' from profile folder) to avoid UI issues after upgrading from Firefox 28 (and older) to Firefox 29 (and newer).

or did you simply install over your existing FF 29?

    I did not do that.

I didn't like the fact they got rid of the add on/status bar at the bottom. No way to put it back unless you use an add on. I found this & used the 1st one on the list, working good.

But seriously, they should have given you the option to put it there if you need it. I have several items I run from there & what would have been the harm in preserving that option if someone wanted/needed it?

Another oddity I noticed, NoScript is one of the things I have on the lower bar. The menu is now reversed, in other words, the options setting is now at the bottom of the list (used to be on the top) & the allowances are moved to the top. NoScript looked normal on 28, once I upped to 29, it went wacky.

I had no problem updating to FF 29, but my question referred to the Classic Theme Restorer add-on. The developer made the above recommendation on the add-on site. I want to put the tabs back where they used to be, along with making some other changes to the new GUI, but I would prefer not changing my existing profile.

Thank you! I installed the add-on and I'm delighted with the increased customization abilities. Now FF looks good again!

This Classic Theme Restorer extension will soon become legendary. Just being able to move the Firefox menu button ("hotdog" icon) to the left side is wonderful since I couldn't get used to moving my mouse waaay over yonder. There are a ton of options with this extension, so you can make mild changes or go full bore and restore the old UI. The developer, Aris, gives great support on his Mozillazine forum thread.

Actually, I was bothered by the loss of "separator" on the Customize dialog. After placing the buttons I wanted onto that toolbar area, I was unable to separate them as I had in the past.

Turns out the Classic Theme Restorer add-on returns the "separator" item capability to Customize. So by installing this add-on I was now able to separate the newly added buttons as I wanted.

But to be honest, I didn't like the way things looked with the add-on enabled. I actually prefer the rounded tabs to the square tabs. And I didn't like the new orange Firefox button placed at the upper-left corner of the window, since I already have the Menu bar enabled (because I'm old fashioned and am comfortable with a Menu bar for those functional groups). I'd already Customized the [Google] search data entry area to be on that top Menu bar line, to the right of the Menu bar item. So that top line does double-duty. The absence of the title bar looks odd, but I'm already used to it.

So I "disabled" the just installed Classic Theme Restorer. Imagine my surprise to discover that the "separators" I'd added to the button bar were miraculously retained... even though the add-on that allowed me to put them there was no longer active! I'm not complaining. I think Firefox v29 still supports "separator", but they unwittingly lost it from the new Customize dialog. I'll bet they bring it back to Customize once they realize it's unintentionally gone.

Yes, the add-on bar is gone without Classic Theme Restorer enabled, and that means NoSquint is gone (at least for now). But I'll bet NoSquint comes out with an update that moves it to Customize and thus makes it a new button, same as AdBlock Plus is on the button bar now whereas it previously was on the add-on bar.

Also, I (like others) was uncomfortable with the placement of the address area and the BACK/FORWARD buttons immediately to its left, rather than at the extreme left of that line where it had always been. And the fact that the BACK/FORWARD buttons don't seem to be separable from the URL address area, well that is certainly an irritation. But I was able to simply Customize things so that the BACK/FORWARD and URL address area is now all the way at the left of that line (so that BACK/FORWARD are at the extreme left where they always were), with my customized buttons now to the right of the address area rather than to the left where they'd been in the past. I'm already used to that new arrangement.
