Links only open in IE - Can't change it

I am having a very weird issue all of a sudden. Usually if links start opening in IE all I have to do is open Firefox and set it as my default browser and all is good. Unfortunately this isn't working and I've noticed something very odd.

Here is a screenshot of IE's Program Associations

".url" is set to Firefox yet it still continues to open in IE.

    Here is Firefox for comparison.

So changing this to "Firefox" worked even though it defaulted back to where it was.

I don't even know how anything got changed. All of a sudden settings get messed up and I can no longer open links in my default browser. Makes no sense.

    Hi,
Links from where exactly on webpages/ from your desktop ?
Walk us through the exact process your running into,

Also which security suite do you have installed and which browsers,
    Try using Clean boot,

Just out of curiosity, what happens if you...
    ...go into Programs and Features
...click on the link named Turn Windows Features on and off
...remove the check beside whatever version of IE that you have
...then restart the computer (even if you are not asked to do so).

I'm not suggesting that you leave your computer in that state. It is nice (best) to have more than one functioning browser. I'm just wondering if that will sort out some of the settings.

You posted this while I was composing my reply to your first post. Did you recently uninstall a browser? Perhaps a Chrome variant? I've seen such uninstalls mess up the remaining browsers and prevent links inside webpages from working.

I'm going to agree with UsernameIssues. Even if you currently have Chrome installed, uninstall it and try to make FF default again. Barring that, try making IE default, make sure it works everywhere, then make FF default again. A Guy
