The attached image says it all. If you have automatic updates enabled then Adobe will install what I would class as malware onto your system.

Another angle on this may be that I usually go through Secunia PSI to do them. I searched for playpanel on my machine and it drew a blank.
Flash is getting as bad as Java, I wish everything went to HTML5 and be done with this mess. I scored 467 out of 555 on this test using Firefox 29.0.1, but IE10 only hit 315. I'm going to see if I can live without Flash on FF, I already know I don't need Java.

Another reason to use chrome. Install it and uninstall any other adobe flash plugins and be done with it.
No more flash plugins = more secure. Also, chrome tries to always use html5 whenever possible.
(Chrome has flash built in and is updated constantly by the browser itself, for those who didn't know.)

Yea I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary either,
I always uninstall flash then re-download it after though,
I turn off or uncheck Adobe updater using msconfig but the normal download does not say anything about the features pointed out ?
I also browse with Flash disabled,
You'd be surprised on how many videos don't need flash even using ie10

Flash Player Update
I didn't see anything "Playpanel" related either. Mind you Flash Player is set to never install updates. I tend to fully remove the old version before rebooting and then installing the latest version rather than let auto-updates take care of it. The auto-updates method often leaves remnants of old versions behind.
As for flash content I tend to use this FF add on in Cyberfox 64bit browser (no java enabled or even installed).
Restore Plugins Click To Play Per Element
It enables content only for the chosen element rather than the whole page:
There's a similar feature built into Opera that doesn't require an add on to activate it. I can't comment on IE as I don't often use it.
