Yahoo allows you to defer putting in a mobile number when entering the periodic password update. Does it allow that when creating an account?
I tried creating another account a few minutes ago. I couldn't bypass their requirement for a mobile number.

Oh well, 'twas a thought. If you decide to use a fake number, to avoid accidentally using someone else's number and possibly subjecting them to spam calls, try using 555 for the prefix (area code-555-random numbers). Doing that will cause any calls made to that number to be redirected to directory assistance instead of some poor innocent schmuck. When I encounter a situation where the other party absolutely insists on my phone number, I use my home phone number and replace the prefix with 555. That makes it easy for me to remember what ersatz phone number I used.
