windows mail issue

my default browser is google chrome. when i click on an email address link windows mail doesn't open ready to write my message. i have tried clicking on email addresses link in internet explorer aswell and still nothing happens so im thinking its a windows live mail setting issue.
sending and receiving emails while i am in windows mail all works fine.
any help would be much appreciated

Click on start orb, click default programmes in menu>Set Programme Access and Computer Defaults>select custom and set it from there. This is how mine looks, though I don't use google chrome.
