How to set yahoo mail as my default mail client?

Hi to all! I am new here. We just got a new desktop computer with OS window 7. I was able to set yahoo as my homepage and able to access to my email and installed yahoo messenger. My problem is everytime I click "read mail" it says that it cannot perform operation because the default mail client is not properly installed. So I went to my control panel - internet options - programs to change my default email but there is no way I can choose yahoo mail as default email. I tried it many times and still trying to figure how to set my yahoo mail.

Also, every time I click the hyperlink email it says that "There is no program associated to perform the requested action. Please install an email program or if one is already installed, create an association in the default programs control panel". So I tried to make changes of my default programs but no yahoo mail.

Is there anybody here with similar case with me? Hope you can help.
    Thanks everyone!

    Looking for your help.l

    yahoo mail and windows 7

I use Mozilla Firefox browser on my Windows7 machine for this very reason....
Install Mozilla Firefox ..... go to tools then applications then mail to drop down box, select Use Yahoo Mail....for some reason Windows 7 will not let you choose yahoo mail in the IE browser. I use IE 8 in a Vista and XP machine and the option for yahoo mail as default is available... I have read that the yahoo plus mail is an option ........
could it be that yahoo is working on being a paid service....

another choice would be to set up the pop mail to go to outlook express...i have not used outlook express for years..

    Have a Great Day

Just install the yahoo toolbar if you have not done so.
    http://toolbar.yahoo.com/ie?.cpdl=dyc
NOTE: make sure to select "Install Yahoo mail plugin" option.

    Now do the following steps
    1) go to control panel -> programs -> Default programs -> set default programs
    2) click on the yahoo mail , then click on "select this program as default"
    3) done.

You can test it by entering mailto:myemail@yahoo.com in your IE address and press return.

I believe that many of Us are having an issue with the E-mail (Default) client services! Right?
I mean anyone can change the "mailto' in firefox! It a check box! No skill there! Eh?
Many of the questions are to have the Default Client Email set either Off Line or On line as the
OS (Win 7) default email! Correct?
    Because:
There are scanned documents to send, File associations with the Printer(s), AND anyway!
I DON'T like MS-OUTLOOK! IT SUCKS! Because....It asks too Many stupid questions, it's nosey! and the format of the messages
    is Lame!
ADDITIONALLY....Leave Internet Explorer (Browser) or Edge out of it!
They BOTH suck. And I haven't used either since the connection speed was 14,000 kbs...Alright? Get it?
So Folks, come on with the Command Prompt stuff to help us Chimpanzees Out!
    Late!

Respond to the FULL (yeah, Really?) Question!
    Out! (Of my mind)

Add this to your registry, if you don't use Firefox then edit that line to whatever browser based mail you use.

Save the text in a file names AddWebmail.reg and then right click file and choose merge.

    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\mailto]
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\mailto\shell]
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\mailto\shell\open]
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\mailto\shell\open\command] @="\"C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Mozilla Firefox\\firefox.exe\" http://compose.mail.yahoo.com/?To=%1"

set Win 7HP to use yahoo mail with Maxthon browser

    Hello,

I'm new to the group. I no longer use IE, Chrome, Firefox, etc. for my browser. I only use Maxthon. Is there a way to configure Yahoo Mail as my default email program when I click on browser links that say "send email"?
