    IE Trouble Connecting to Websites

    Hi,

Within the past ten days, I've been experiencing trouble with Internet Explorer connecting to webpages. The browser takes an unusually long time to connect if it can connect at all. If it doesn't connect, I get a "Page cannot be displayed" indication. If I refresh the "Page cannot be displayed," the browser will usually connect, but not always.

I was running IE11, but in my troubleshooting I downgraded to IE10. After I removed IE11, I noticed the same connection issues with IE 8. I then upgraded to IE10, but the issue continues.

A few days ago, I suspected my NVIDIA graphics drivers/software as the cause of this issue. I completely removed the drivers and software and reinstalled and consulted with NVIDIA tech support. NVIDIA tech support suggested changing IE Advanced Settings for Accelerated Graphics to use software rendering as opposed to hardware rendering. I don't think that the graphics drivers are causing the problem.

I also suspected my Internet Security software, ESET Smart Security 7. I checked the personal firewall settings, but I don't see anything that looks unusual.

I've noticed that when I reboot the system, the network icon will momentarily display the indication that it's attempting to connect to the internet and then the normal network icon is displayed. Then, while the desktop takes its usual couple of minutes to completely load, I notice that the network icon will momentarily indicate no internet connection with the yellow triangle. This yellow triangle icon may appear several times for a very brief moment and then clear during the time the desktop is loading. My desktop takes a few minutes to completely load due to the fact I have a few services on delayed start.

The yellow triangle appearing on the network icon during start up is something new. I suspect it may be related to my browser connection issues.

I've also reset the IE10/11 browsers several times, but that action hasn't resolved my connection issues.

I'm looking for assistance to resolve this now IE10 slow or trouble connecting to website issue.

Thanks in advance for the assistance.

    Regards

Something else new that may be related is that I noticed that Autocomplete for username and passwords is not working although I have it selected as an option.

I've tried to troubleshoot this issue as well, by unchecking all options in Autocomplete and closing the browser. Then restarting the browser and selecting the Autocomplete option for usernames and passwords. I've also cleared all form data, but still no joy reestablishing this feature.

I just re-upgraded to IE11 and the browser is now remembering usernames and passwords again. However, the slow connection issue is not resolved. I'm now back to where I was before I downgraded to IE10.

Have you tried booting to Safe Mode and see if that works? Start your computer in safe mode - Windows Help

Do you have another browser besides IE you can try or are the problems only affecting IE and not other programs? I mean not only browsers but any program that connects to the internet.

Yes, the trouble appears in Safe Mode with Networking. The connection is slow and when it does connect, it appears that some of the webpage formatting is blocked just as it does in Normal Mode.

I suspected my Internet Security software, ESET Smart Security 7, might be causing the trouble, but testing with the ESET disabled didn't seem to resolve anything.

I've just installed Chrome and it seems to not be as fast as advertised. I haven't done much testing with it though. My general impression was that it is being affected to some degree as well.

I haven't really noticed any other programs having issues besides the browsers. So, I can't say at the moment that this is only a browser connection problem.

The network icon with the momentary appearance of the yellow triangle indicating no internet during the brief time it takes the desktop to fully load with some services on delayed start causes me to suspect a problem with the Intel networking driver/software. This Intel board has an integrated LAN with Intel drivers and software.

I'm getting close to a clean install of Win 7 and all the programs, but I really don't want to spend a couple of days setting up a new system.

You could try this before a clean install:

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

    Repair Install

After testing Chrome again, I would say it has issues also.

I've run SFC and no issues were detected.

This is a repair install that I accomplished in August. If I do another install, it will be a clean install in audit mode so I can burn a copy for recovery purposes.

I uninstalled the Intel Pro Network Connections LAN Driver, rebooted, did a complete disk/system clean-up, rebooted, and then reinstalled the Intel LAN Driver and I think my issues are resolved.

I noticed that the yellow triangle isn't appearing on the Network Icon during the time the Desktop is installing and the IE11 connections seem to be vastly improved.

I'm going to monitor the performance and see if I start having issues again.

I think the problem was a corrupted Intel LAN driver that was slowing down or filtering the internet connection.

Based on my observations of the system performance after reinstalling the driver, it appears my connection issues are resolved.

I'm marking this thread as solved. Thanks for the assistance.
