    Internet Explorer 11 won't start

    Hi guys.

I've search the forum but nothing useful shows or they were posted many months ago. There is a link to reinstall IE on here How to repair or reinstall Internet Explorer in Windows but when I run it, it says I have a newer version installed 11.0.9600.17344.

I mainly use IE11 all the time even though I have FireFox installed. IE11 has worked pretty good over the past 8 months (apart from the odd crash). I was using it yesterday no problem then I went out to visit friends and I turned the laptop off.

I came back and switched it and the keyboard wasn't working. I checked Device Manager and the keyboard had an exclamation mark by it. I told it to search for files in C:\Windows\System32\drivers but it still didn't work so I did a system restore and the keyboard came back.

Now IE11 won't start the screen flashes for a second then closes. If I go into C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe and keep it pressed it starts up loads of time in the taskbar, I let go and they all stop.

I've Reset IE in Internet Options and done a restart and I've run iexplore.exe -extoff but it still doesn't open. I've done a full Malwarebytes Anti-Malware scan and it showed no problems.

This is posted in FireFox. All Windows updates are up to date. I've done SFC /scannow but still the same.

Any solution will be gratefully appreciated.

Would you believe today IE11 has started working again after 2 days not working.

In Programs and Features installed updates Internet Explorer 11 is listed but if you click on uninstall it says not all updates were installed. I've just clicked on it today and it started to uninstall so I stopped it.

I will see how long it lasts as I don't really want to do a rebuild.

    Hi,
    Rebuilding is simply redownloading,
ie10 is more stable consider rolling back to it,
Depending on which version was installed before ie11 you might need to download versions as they were released,
    ie8-9-10 in that order,

Click Start and type in the search box,
    msconfig
Click on the suggestion on top or hit the Enter key,
Go to the Startup section and take some screen shots for a complete list,
Go to the Services section and on the bottom left Check the box to Hide All Microsoft services,
    Repeat the screen shots,
See the links above my signature on how to take and upload screen shots here,
    Cheers.

    Thanks for the tip.

IE11 has always been installed I've got used to its quirky features. I use CCleaner and when I clean even though Last Download Location isn't ticked I have to find my own C:\Downloads folder.

I'm happy its working again after 2 days on FireFox, if it hiccups again I'll let you know.
