    You were correct whs.

I clicked on the option to hide the IE 11 download in Windows Update. Next I checked for updates and voila there was IE 9 and IE 10 available for download.

Seems I won't have to put Granny in a home after all.

Alas but my joy is short lived.

I skipped IE 9 and installed 10. Restarted and launched IE. IE 8 opened. Uninstalled IE 10 and installed IE 9. Now IE does not appear in All programs but shows as installed in Programs and Features in Control Panel.

Searched for IE 9 in the start menu. Nothing comes up. Went to C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EX to attempt to launch the IEXPLORE.EXE. It isn't there.

Went to Control Panel->Program and Features, click “Turn Windows features on or off and IE is checked.

    The saga continues...

    Au contraire mon ami.

The windows 7 install was due to a faulty hard drive I replaced.

I reinstalled IE 10 and everything is back to normal.

    Thanks everyone.
