Unable to install Internet Explorer 10

    Good morning,

Yesterday I reinstalled Windows 7 from the disk. This installed IE 8 and usually IE 9, IE10 and then IE 11 are available to upgrade to with Windows Update. This wasn't the case. IE 9 and IE 10 do not appear. Instead it provides IE 11 after a number of updates are installed.

There doesn't seem to be an option for disabling tabs in IE 11. My grandmother uses my PC and finds tabbed browsing confusing so I run IE 10 for her.

I ended up installing Firefox with a fix to browse single page style. We prefer IE explorer and was hoping someone here could assist me in downgrading IE 11 to IE 10 or a work around with a new install of Windows 7. Thanks for any thoughts or comments provided.

Well; you should be able to find IE 10 somewhere in the microsoft download center or in their archived downloads. Im just not sure exactly what section, etc. as its been quite awhile since Ive been to that section of their site. So I would just go there and try and do a search for it and see what you can come up with.

I would suggest you uninstall IE11 first. Chances are that IE10 will show up automatically in the updates (if you are back to IE9 after the IE11 uninstall).

To uninstall IE11 go to Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features. There in the left pane on top you will see "View Installed Updates". Go there and find the IE11 (maybe further down). There right click on IE11 and "uninstall".

    Thanks for the quick replies.

I tried that Matt but no luck. Every Windows IE 10 download link is redirected to a IE 11 download. Even File Hippo redirects to IE 11. I tried several places and blew up my Webroot with malware.

whs I tried that too but it reverts to IE 8. 9 and 10 are nowhere to be found.

    1. You should watch the automatic downloads of the updates. That's how it appeared on my system.

    2. If not, try this: Download Internet Explorer 10 for Windows 7

    1. I do watch them carefully to avoid the IE 11 download after I install IE 10. It always worked before.

    2. I tried that exact link yesterday. I forget the exact wording of the error message but it would not install after IE 8 or IE 11

Thanks whs for trying to assist me.

Thought I would try again by reinstalling Windows 7. The first IE to show in updates is 11. 9 or 10 did not appear.

My gran says to say thank you to you nice boys and girls for helping. ( anyone under 50 is a boy or girl to her).

In conclusion: nothing worked so I will be running IE 8 until granny croaks.

Keep watching for the IE10 in the updates. It may show up one day.
