WIndows Live Mail refuses to send attachments

Whenever I send file attachments that WLM deems risky, it won't send them. the only 'notification' I receive is that it appears back in my inbox after 5 mins or so stating it can't send these types of files.

So I checked the Safety options Security tab and there is no option to allow for sending risky attachments. There is, however, an option that disallows receiving risky attachments that can be turned off. So a bit of googling showed that this setting is allegedly also for sending attachments. But turning the option off makes no difference, even after restarting WLM. I still can't send certain attachments unless I change the file extension. Quite irritating and a bit Totalitarian.

So is there a way to send attachments without having to resort to renaming the extensions every time?

    Thanks,
    Salt

For me, its blocked sending of .reg & .exe file attachments, but there are several others, as can be seen listed here. You'll note that the linked site states that the unchecking the option in the Security tab of Safety Options will then alllow one to receive and send the risky attachments. Not so here. I still can't send the attachments without renaming them.

just a wild guess here, but is Enhanced Protected Mode enabled in the Advanced Tab of Internet Options? It's in the security section. It isn't on my system and we have no issues sending or receiving attachments in WLM.

Nope. Not enabled. Good thought, though (and appreciated). I'm not sure why it's not an issue for everyone, but my research shows that it is for many. And I've combed through various settings looking for an option that will change the behavior. I've been using WLM in its various forms for many years (OE, WM, WLM). Even if a solution presents itself, I'm thinking I may give Thunderbird a try. I'm about to institute some major changes in my emailing infrastructure anyway (due to a domain name change), and it seems like TB has some features I can use.

    Regardless, any ideas welcome.

    Thanks!
