Full screen opening in the internet

I just posted in the 8 forum only to find I cannot download attachments of my choice so hopefully I can get some joy from here.

Whenever I open the net I get a gap at the bottom and borders at the sides - see pic hitting the maximize button puts it right and dragging and dropping the bottom gap works but the side borders are not adjustable manually.
I have Googled several fixes but none work the only one that works is the F11 button but then I lose the taskbar etc.
Anyone got any ideas - don't mind tweaking the registry if necessary but it is driving me nuts.

If AddRAM's suggestion doesn't work go to the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main key.

    • Look in the right pane and check the setting for the FullScreen string value, make sure it has a value of no.

    • If it doesn't and has a value of yes, double-click it, enter no and OK your way out. Then test.

    • The usual cautions when mucking around within the Registry apply.

Ok fellas Mikes tip did it the command line then ended -k but it still opened as small. I ended up hittig the maximize button which gives me the full screen but with the centre max button doubled up like in my pic which if you hover over it says Restore down. But it works that's all that matters eh

Something doesn't sound right John, That -k you see at the end of the cmd line in IE properties means IE is in kiosk mode and it should not allow access to the rest of Windows:
At one time or another, you have probably thought about setting up a PC to work like a kiosk, where the PC is locked down so a user can only perform a single function. While it's possible to do so in versions of Windows prior to 8.1, it involves editing the registry and dedicating the PC solely to the task of working as a kiosk.

Windows 8.1's new Assigned Access feature allows you to configure a local user account to essentially function in kiosk mode, and it doesn't even require you to edit the registry or dedicate a PC to the task. Once you configure an Assigned Access account, a user signed on to that account only has access to the one Modern app that you specify -- the user cannot run any other application or make any changes to the operating system. Other users can sign on to the computer and have full access to Windows 8.1.

You may not have access to other Windows functions.

Hmm pretty convoluted Anak and I must say I don't really follow it in accounts there is only myself and this ha started happening fairly recently so I am at a loss. It just means I have to use the max button each time I fire it up.
