    New Mail Client

I understand MS is phasing out Outlook Express. I have tried several different clients and all have problems. The lastest is Windows Live Mail. It hangs on startup. I have found several threads on this problem. I would like to stay with OE. Will it work in Windows 7?

Phasing out? Microsoft hasn't supported OE since XP. OE does not work in Vista, nor does it work in 7.

The only email client I use and have used in the last 5 years is Outlook. It is worth the money.

Opera, the browser that is, has an inbuilt eMail client which works offline and stores your messages locally - you get the choice of POP/IMAP interfacing, and loads of other features like filtering, HTML, etc.

Pocomail is a standalone client which is very similar to M$ Outlook, and is safer than OE or Windows Mail, or there's always Thunderbird.

I've been using Opera for some time, the browser and eMail client are little short of excellent

There's also this, again - comparable to Outlook...

I tried and didn't like Live Mail. The other major free competitor for PCs is Thunderbird. I haven't had any significant issues with it on Windows 7 and it can be configured to closely resemble Outlook Express.

You are out of luck on Outlook Express.

with Win 7 Pro or higher, you use OE in the virtual XP mode.

I tried Thunderbird and it is similar to OE and I liked it. I need to have two email accounts on it, which it supports. I got the first account to work but the second one gave me an error message that "email account not verified". There are alot of threads on sites about this. They did not help solve my problem. I called my ISP, AT&T and they remotely tried to correct it, but they were at a loss also. Have any of you gotten this error and found a fix for it?

Not sure if you mean 2 email addresses with a single ISP or email accounts with 2 different ISPs.

I have no trouble with Thunderbird and 2 email addresses (2 accounts) with a single ISP.

I experienced this problem with 2 accounts 1:windows live and 2: gmail. I set my accounts to both use gmail smtp for all outgoing email otherwise I get errors.

I've been using Thunderbird for years, including with 7.

I have multiple accounts set up, both IMAP and POP. I have almost 30 filters setup on one and over 10,000 messages in a bunch of folders (work). I get almost 200 emails a day. I have several plugins installed, including one to search for and remove duplicate messages.

    Nothing beats it IMHO.
