How get exported eml-files (winmail) into Thunderbird?

I had to restore my computer to factory settings and backed up my mail from Windows Mail to an external drive. Now I have a fresh W7 install and also want to use Thunderbird instead of Windows Mail. How can I move the saved eml-files that are on the external drive to my new Thunderbird mail?

When I try the built in import tool in Thunderbird I donīt get an option for importing mail files from Windows Mail, only Eudora and Outlook/Outlook Express. Can it instead be done manually?

I know nothing about Windows Live Mail and I don't use it. However I do know that if emails are saved as files in .eml format you can just drag and drop them into your thunderbird inbox window.

So if you can find your WLM database you can open it using the above and highlight (check) all messages and save them all in one go into a folder using .eml extension then just drag them into Thunderbird.

However if your backup folder just contains .eml files you don't need the above software. You can just open the folder and drag all the messages into whatever mail folder you like in Thunderbird.
