Windows 7 and IE11 - inability to select 1080p video in Youtube

Sorry if this is not the correct area to post in but I am at my wits end trying to resolve this problem after a week.

Ive been using IE11 fine for well over a year (following a clean install of W7 using your guides). For the whole year ive been able to watch youtube vids in 1080p (I have 2 x 1920x1200 monitors and a 70Mbit internet connection).

A week ago that stopped and in the youtube quality settings I have only two options 360p and 720p. Both look pretty awful compared to what I am used to.

To make matters worse, my wife who has a PC behind me connected to the same network also running W7 and IE11 can watch the same vids as me in 1080p.

Things I have tried which haven't worked:
    • Install latest adobe flash player
    • install latest java
    • Reset IE11 to default settings
    • Uninstall flash player and java and reboot.
    • installed latest NVidia drivers (GTX980) using a clean install and DDU cleaner to remove old driver
Im stumped and would really appreciate the kind of help I know you guys are capable of giving.

    thanks
    Matt

I see the same thing with IE11 on two different computers. Both fail to offer 1080p on a video that Chrome will play at 1080p. (but I'm not on my regular ISP at the moment).

Java has no bearing on the issue. I don't have the Flash add-on for IE11 on either of the two computers that I tested with.

I've never noticed this before - since I tend to play videos in Chrome.

What baffles me is that my wife gets offered 360p, 480p, 720p and 1080p by youtube and she is on the same network as me, same OS, same IE11 settings and same gfx card and monitors. Indeed, I had all those options too until 1 week ago and have had for a year and a half.

    Im baffled

Anyone got any ideas how to resolve this?

I checked while using another ISP and 1080p was not offered via IE11.

This is really odd. Maybe other forum members know what is going on.

See the link in post #2.

This also happens in Pale Moon.
Only Chrome will offer 1080p for me.

I would imagine it's because there is no full screen option only theater mode ?

The video was not playing in the Theater Mode when the screenshot was taken.

Here is the same (non-Theater Mode) view in Chrome:

    IE11 in the Theater Mode:

IE11 not in the Theater Mode:

...or maybe I don't understand what the Theater Mode is...

edit: btw, this is not a problem for me. I just use Chrome. But I'm helping to document the problem in the hopes that other forum members can help the OP.

I was making a guess as to why 1080... is not an option
Without full screen 1080 is pointless

I guess we should thank Googletube for offering 720.. without using Chrome

    The OP's wife gets 1080p using IE11.
The OP does not get 1080p with IE11.
    Why?

In IE11, I am not offered 1080p while in the full screen mode either.
