Thanks for the info guys, I think I will wait like you say and see what develops.
If that letter is legit. Will I need to change the thunderbird IMAP servers? I access outlook dot com through thunderbird email client.
According to Microsofts answer about this update from Callender's post http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/w...9-3fad3982cebf which said:

Hi Lenny,
Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community. I understand that you have a few doubts regarding the Email that you have received from our end. Let me help you.
This email is a genuine one. If you use Windows Live Mail 2012 on Windows 8, Windows 8.1 or Windows 10, we recommend that you switch to the built in Mail app in Windows to stay connected and get the latest feature updates on Windows 8, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10.
If you need any further clarification regarding the email or any concern over Windows Operating Systems, please feel free to contact us again. We will be happy to assist you accordingly.

Since I am using Windows Live Essentials 2012 with windows 7, I don't need to update? correct? Only the folks who have Windows 8, 8.1 or 10 with the WLM 2012 need it.

That's not my understanding, but i think the email is poorly worded and confusing.
Here is a quote from the email in post #1, there is no mention of any OS.
imho, other statements in that email are trying to push people off of WLM and use the built-in Win OS email client, or upgrading to Win 10.In a few weeks, we will be making some changes to our email services that might impact your @outlook.com, @hotmail, @live, or @msn email account. Those changes will prevent your email from being delivered to the Windows Live Mail 2012 application you use. In order to continue using Windows Live Mail 2012 to send and receive email for your account, you need to install the latest update published here.

That brings my question back I asked earlier. That means they maybe changing mail servers or eliminating them. I hope Microsoft is not eliminating them. It will make my Thunderbird useless. That how I access my emails on Linux system as well.
I have several "MS" email accounts, i just checked 2 of them in Web Mail, 1 was converted to the new format, and 1 was not converted.
So, right now i have a mix of converted and not converted accounts.
On Win 7 x64 Pro with Office Outlook Pro 2010, all my email accounts still work.
I didn't have to change servers, or make any other changes (so far).
I believe Thunderbird will continue to work without server changes.
I THINK this only affects WLM and MS Email accounts, but i haven't tested all this on my TEST PC where i use WLM, Thunderbird, etc.
I never got an email from MS about this change.
It would be nice if MS sent an email to the account they just converted letting the user know "Your account has been changed ... ".
Yea I remember a windows update for win-7 that made it possible to use win-10 desktop apps :/
Possibly this is why
Luckily I don't use live mail or depend on M$ services or servers for office outlook
Which I prefer over live mail but still only use it for sending invoices and estimates everything else goes through a gmail account
