    Cannot create favorites

    Win 7 SP1
    IE 11
When I try too add a website to my favorites, I get the following message:
    UNABLE TO CREATE (website name)
    ACCESS IS DENIED
    Is there a fix available?

    TIA

Hi kaygeea, welcome to 7F! :)

There should be a fix, but we need to ask some questions first, so we know which fork in the road we need to follow:

    • What did you have before IE11; IE8, 9 or 10?

    • Were you able to add favorites to them, without problems?

    • Have you just recently updated to IE11; Did you see any Windows popups asking you to install "prerequisite" KB updates?

    • Did you have any warnings or error messages when you updated to IE11?

    • If not, were you able to add favorites to IE11 just after you updated, but now you can't?

    • Please answer these questions. After you do, you can go on to running the SFC /scannow section below.

Now; If I asked you to run a SFC /scannow scan would you know how to do it? Running this scan would help in knowing if your operating system has any internal problems with its folders and files.

If you already know how please run the scan, if you do not, the tutorial on "how to" is here, use Option Two: SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker make sure you use an elevated command prompt as shown in step #1, once you have the elevated command prompt follow step #2: To Scan and Repair System Files

    Please post back if:

    • The scan found no integrity violations or

    • If the scan found violations and fixed all of them or

    • If the scan found violations and could not fix some of them.

    • If it found and fixed violations, try creating a "favorite".

Keep that elevated command prompt handy, we may need it depending on the results.

    • What did you have before IE11; IE8, 9 or 10? I have had 11 for a long time, replacing 10.

    • Were you able to add favorites to them, without problems? yes.

    • Have you just recently updated to IE11; Did you see any Windows popups asking you to install "prerequisite" KB updates? My harddrive was recently corrupted, and was reformatted. the problem has ocurred since then.

    • Did you have any warnings or error messages when you updated to IE11? n/a

    • If not, were you able to add favorites to IE11 just after you updated, but now you can't? n/a

    • Please answer these questions. After you do, you can go on to running the SFC /scannow section below.
The SFP scan found no integrity violations.

    Concerning:
My harddrive was recently corrupted, and was reformatted. the problem has ocurred since then.
    Can you elaborate:

    • Did you use an image, or did you do a factory restore to re-format?

    • Was it a quick or low level re-format? And,

You could run the CHKDSK to see if it would help, use option one and when you get to step #4 make sure both boxes are checked it explains at step #8 why both boxes should be checked as you want to To Scan and Automatically Attempt to Fix Errors and Recover Bad Sectors; And you should also re-run the SFC scan after it.

Thanks for addressing my problem, but I won't have access to my computer for several weeks, so I am withdrawing my question.

    Thanks again.

That's okay Kent no need to withdraw, your thread will remain open. Once you regain access, and if the problem remains we can pick up where we left off.

    It has been my pleasure,
