    Corrupted Thunderbird Email for Sending/Receiving

I am unable to send or receive email through my Thunderbird account. Called my email provider and was told that the whole thing was corrupted. Should I close this account and then try to re-open? Don't know how to handle this or what caused it. Any help appreciated.

    Tbird

    Hi Zosha,
    Open thunderbird
Click on the 3 thick bars, top right >> select Tools >> select about Tbird >> it should update to the latest version.
If that does not fix your problem Uninstall it, and reinstall, takes about 5 minutes.

    Hi, @Zosha:

In addition to @torchwood's excellent advice...

Many times, problems with TB (or Firefox) originate in the user's profile, rather than in the program itself.

Before reinstalling TB, you might try the TB - standard diagnostic
The article is a bit quite dated, but the general procedure (e.g. beginning with starting TB with add-ons disabled, aka "Mozilla Safe Mode", and then backing up one's profile BEFORE proceeding to reinstalling the program) is a good idea.

Your data (address book, mail messages, account settings, etc.) are stored in the user profile, not in the program itself.
So, it **ought** to be safe to reinstall TB.
But, it might be safer to backup the profile (using Mozbackup or TEBE or another method) BEFORE reinstalling the program.
(Neither of those backup utilities is still being actively developed, but AFAIK they both still work.)

Also, the article I linked above explains how to *cleanly* reinstall the program, if you wish to do so.

AND, you might try compacting folders and deleting the msf folders, as explained HERE.
(But again, I would backup the profile first.)

Please let us know how things go.

    Thanks,
    MM

    Thank you!

MoxieMomma and Torchwood: I have never used a site like this before and am basically quite inadequate with computers. I wanted to thank both of you for your prompt and helpful replies--it really meant a lot to me because I was very stressed, had no one to ask for assistance and you both came to my rescue! The issue was resolved but too lengthy to type. The point is: THANK YOU for being there for me!

    Hi, @Zosha:

I'm glad you fixed your issue.
We could all learn a bit if you would share at least a brief report of how you fixed it.
But thanks for letting us know.

    Cheers,
    MM
