    Java SE Runtime popup

While running a website I get a popup that says
" This webpage wants to run the following add-on: 'Java SE Runtime Environment 8 Update 77' From 'Oracle America, Inc.'. What's the risk? "

I have clicked on "What's the risk" and read the Microsoft explanation but it does not help me very much. Can anyone explain what this Java app is and if it is safe to run. I have Java installed on my computer so I don't understand why I am getting this pop up??
    Thank you,
    TomS

    Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
Just because a website wants to do something does not mean you should.
Exit the website and the message to run dangerous java applets.

Might want to post which browser too and what website is triggering the popup :/

    Thank you,

    Hi,
    Uninstall java from Oracle
I don't get the popup without java installed and why do you think you need it installed anyway ?

The prompt is not asking you to install Java, the prompt is asking you for permission to let that website use the Java software that you already have installed. The default installation Java causes prompts like this for your safety.

I installed Java as a test and I see the same prompt that you do from that website. I have no idea why links on that website would need Java.

I suggest that you uninstall Java. You probably don't need it at all. Once you uninstall Java, you should no longer see prompts to run Java when visiting links on that website.

Thank you. I have had Java on and off for years. I removed it when I read that it was nothing but problems and then reinstalled it when I thought I needed it (with Facebook?).

There are still a few games that use Java inside a web browser. You can decide if a given game is worth the problems caused by having Java installed.

Not that it has come up - but Java and Javascript are two different beasts. Some websites won't display properly if Javascript is disabled.
