how to separate Yahoo from old At&t account

Hello, I got rid of At&t finally, and it was tied directly with Yahoo. Now Yahoo stays tied with At&t (more exactly, my old Sbcglobal.net account). I want to completely separate them and close out that old email account. I figure I can always add a new Yahoo account if I choose -- but I want to get rid of At&t completely. Please help. Dancing around on their sites does not allow me anywhere to solve the problem. And I did not call At&t since others have reported "since I have no account, they won't help".

I do have a Yahoo email account, but am hardly an expert.

First, the obvious:

Yahoo is a mess and is for sale the last I heard.

Yahoo email has always been an even bigger mess. Poor interfaces, not user friendly.

I've fumbled around in their interface for a couple of hours over the last 5 years and was not amused.

I do know that they will allow anyone to have more than one email address tied to a single account. I think the max is 2 or 3 and that you can't make more than one change every 6 months? Something silly like that.

Where and how to do that is not easy to find. I eventually found the location after being highly frustrated.

When I wanted a second Yahoo email address, I kept the same account and used the option to create a second address. I now have 2 Yahoo emails and could write you from either one. All email to either address shows up when I log into Yahoo email.

The best thing you can do is get rid of Yahoo, but I haven't done that myself. I just endure it because I don't often use it--maybe 2 or 3 times a month for a couple of minutes.

I refuse to go with Google for anything other than a search engine. I guess Hotmail is still around, but I've never tried it. That's Microsoft, I think.

That's why I still use an old-fashioned personal email application: Thunderbird.

If you figure Yahoo out, please write a tutorial.

If I were you, I might just abandon your current account. Walk away from it. Don't bother closing it out at all. Pretend you never even heard of Yahoo until today and start over from the ground up, creating everything new---if you must use Yahoo at all.
