IE 11 Will Not Always Close

Just recently IE 11 refuses to close and gets hung up. The only way to close it is through Task Manager. I've deleted all temp files, history, favorites, forms etc to see if that would help. It did not. It does not happen all the time, but at least a couple of times a day. Any thoughts? Once I do get it closed it seems to close OK for awhile.

    Hi,
    See what this does,
Use No Add-ons mode/ Click the Start button and type in the search box,
    Internet explorer

Click on the suggestion (No Add-ons) or it’s located at,
    Start/ All programs/ Accessories folder/ System tools folder/ No add-ons.

If using ie10 the first link will apply to ie9 as well,

Activate EPM if on a 64 bit version of windows,
    Internet Explorer 10 - Enable 32-bit or 64-bit IE10 in Windows 7
Add the Run box to the Start menu list,
Start Menu - Add Run Button
Open the Run command and Paste this into it and Okay,
    "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -extoff

I see IE11 hang too... but not every day.

I have a script that does some things every time there are no more IE exe running. That script makes a tray tip telling me that all instances of IE have stopped running. There are times when IE exits quickly (~1 second) and times when it takes a minute or more to exit. I have opened Resource Monitor and noticed that IE is still doing stuff (even after closing IE's windows). If I leave it alone, IE usually exits on its own. But like you mentioned, sometimes it hangs around. I've left it overnight and it was still not exiting.

How long (after closing IE's visible windows) are you waiting before killing IE via Task Manager?

    1. I tried running with no add-ons as recommended, and it has yet to hang up. It must be one or more of them that is causing the problem but which one/ones.
    2. I'm not sure how long it might take to shut down on its own. If it does not shut down in about 30 seconds I usually revert to Task Manager as IE11 becomes unresponsive. Sometimes it shuts instantly. No real rhyme or reason that I can pinpoint. Neither FireFox nor Chrome gets hung up like IE11.

    I'm attaching a 2 page list of Add-Ons

    Hi,
You can always reset ie11 and delete personal settings
Then on first startup if you get a popup saying add-ons are ready to be enabled click on No.

    I understand better now.

I was referring to the time between when IE's window closes and the time that IE finally exits RAM. I don't recall the last time that IE's windows failed to close. I just see IE hanging around in RAM after the last IE window has closed.

    I'll go back to lurking.
