Is this window a security threat?

Lately, when viewing websites and forums, a small window appears that says it's a "message from webpage" and asks if I want to "leave this page" or "stay on this page". It seems to just appear for no logical reason. It appears if I'm reading other posts on a forum and just click to move to the next page. It even appeared on my browsers home page when I just tried to click on a thumbnail for a news story. I have IE 11. This little window won't let me close it and I cant go to the home page or close IE when this window appears. I have scanned my computer with my security program and it tells me that there are no threats. I don't want to click on it because it seems suspicious to me, so instead, I've been physically breaking my internet connection and restarting my computer.

My question is if this is some kind of malware, threat or is it actually coming from the site that I'm viewing at the time?

It's not a security threat. Review this post for more info.

Thanks Callender! I read the link you posted. Since it's not a threat I won't worry about it anymore. I did try disabling scripting, as suggested in the link, but found that a whole lot of things no longer work. So I guess I'll just click "leave this page" when this window shows up.

That's probably the best idea. Peronally I use other browsers where it's easy to toggle javascript on/off.
