Retain emails on a cancelled email account on Windows Live Mail

I have an email account that has been deleted at the server. I want to keep all the emails both in and out that have accumulated over the past year or so preferably where they are now without exporting elsewhere. At the moment everytime I open Windows Live mail it tries to connect to this email account and I need to cancel the "Confirm password" to bypass the connection. How can I cancel the connection attempt?

Mitchell mate I have gone over to Thunderbird - it can be configured just like WLM (GUI) and as long as you are keeping your accounts - mine for example are hotmail and the local provider bigpond - TB will import all the mails I used to have in WLM.

I may not be understanding exactly what you want but seeing WLM is being made redundant and I am NOT a fan of Outlook I am now with TB I thought I would try it and it works really very well.

Go to your account> properties and uncheck box like in the pic attached.

I too have been thinking of going over to Thunderbird but try as I might I cannot get my email accounts to work. Getting "Password" not authenticated message. It does connect sometimes but then that connecting windows hangs for ages and never actually connects. Will uninstall TB an start again I think. Both my email accounts are with the same server 123 Reg. Work perfectly in WLM!

Sorry that didn't stay working for you.
You could try unchecking the remember password box in account properties>servers tab. Maybe that will keep it working. If/when you uninstall thunderbird, delete the thunderbird folder in C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming after uninstalling and start totally fresh.

If you open WLM, (I'm using WLM 2012) find and click as in first image. Then add address & password you don't want as in second image, then clear the check box.

Without making any alterations today it is working perectly. Must have been a gremlin. Thanks for your help again.

Hello Mitchell mate I would sill try TB alongside WLM if you want to - they work on a couple of my machines really good - no conflicts and I am still concerned that WLM will suddenly drop it's bundle when Microsoft pulls the plug and that awful Outlook is offered. Also you can change from either to either as the default mail

At least TB will be kept up to date with in and out mail if you run it from time to time as the default mail.

See my pic of my set up for TB
