Chrome displaying text and pages wrong after downgrade to 7

I bought this computer a year ago and it came with Windows 8, which I upgraded to 8.1 and then 10. Today, I formatted my hard drive and installed Windows 7. This has caused some issues, such as with drivers.

Chrome is not displaying pages as it used to. Text is poorly aligned, often the wrong font, and there are these boxes appearing:

Here is how it displays in IE:

I have already checked encoding and it was using Windows1252 and I changed it to Unicode and nothing changed.
It's not a driver issue either as I already updated drivers and everything works fine in IE.

Edit: I just discovered another oddity... Backslashes are appearing as \ (yen symbol). Again, it's only in Chrome, not on the rest of the PC.

Why did you downgrade to Windows 7 instead the original Windows 8.
If it is an OEM, it will have the correct drivers, etc.

Maybe there are solution for you in 8-forum

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
Go to Chrome settings and make sure Use hardware acceleration when available is not checked.

I don't use Chrome unfortunately
But you can post a link to a website or full page screen shot of where the issue happens possibly someone that does use Chrome can see if it happens to them.

I am using Chrome.

Do go to Menu -> Help -> About Google Chrome
Version: 52.0.2743.116 m (64-bit)
Note: Do ensure you install the correct 64-bit.

Menu -> Setting -> scroll down to click on "Show advanced settings.."

Scroll down to "Web content" -> Font size; &or customize fonts.

Alternately, you can do "Reset setting".

Do note that some changes may require you to restart Google Chrome, to take effect.

If not, go to Menu -> Help -> Help center.
I did find this useful.

I did uninstall this Google Chrome and re-installed, not once, but on other laptops.
There is no problem for all the laptops that installed Chrome.

Hi Xpfan,
can you try this little experiment.
Shutdown>>restart>> USE IE, close it >> open Chrome
Fonts Normal??

This bug has been going for years, the moral of the story try another browser first then chrome.
apparently chrome does something weird with the font table if its opened First.
