Did you check your settings? Are you sure that you have the correct name and password on Thunderbird?
I use GMail, too, but not Thunderbird. What I would do, if I had the problem.
Boot the computer, you would be surprised how many problems that can solve.
If that does not work, remove the GMail account from Thunderbird, boot and then supply the necessary information for GMail. Keep us posted.
Hi:
Hmm, that's odd.
I'm on my Win10 box at the moment, but I cannot reproduce your issue with Gmail in Thunderbird 45.3.0 (full, installed version, not portable), POP3.
Outgoing messages working fine.
FWIW, there is no official Thunderbird "portable".
I assume you are using this?
Mozilla Thunderbird, Portable Edition | PortableApps.com - Portable software for USB, portable and cloud drives
Having said that, what happens when you try it from Mozilla Safe Mode (not the same thing as Windows Safe Mode)?

I'm using Thunderbird portable from PortableApps and don't have this issue with Gmail.
I use IMAP, not POP3.
I use the same TBird portable program and setup from Win 7, 8.1, and 10.
Thank you all, I am now using TB portable with IMAP & it works.
