Hi ...

When we shut our computer down on last Thursday evening, everything was fine while we worked Home | Daily Mail Online.
However, when we tried to access the site on the Friday morning, it had all changed.

It took about 3 minutes before anything appeared on-screen with only words running down the left side of the window ... nothing else.
Then a further few minutes, paragraphs right across the screen appeared below that.
Scrolling down to the bottom of the page, it was all text apart from literally a small handful of photos ... lots of spaces without any pictures.
Every time a click was made to access any of the paragraphs, the result was that one or two appeared after some minutes and the rest never came up on screen at all.

We have 2 computers here and they they each give the same result. Both are running Windows 7 Pro and they've not had their settings altered.
The desktop runs 3 browsers ... Pale Moon, Epic and Internet Explorer. The laptop just runs Pale Moon. All the browsers give the same result yet when accessing any other site, the results are more than perfect.

We also have a small tablet which, when on the same site, seems to produce the the test quite quickly but no photos. All other sites appear okay.

As a first resort, I emailed the newspaper site with this query but was told that nothing was wrong their end and they suggested that ...
"From your email it sounds like there could be a CSS problem on the browser that you're using. It would be more useful to a large screenshot of what you are seeing on your screens. We are not currently not aware of any issues on our end.
Please double check that the website is not cached in some way as we had CSS issues recently."

What I have done so far is to clear cookies, cache, active logins and offline website data and well as manually deleting all temporary internet files and *.tmp files.
Following all that, I shut both computers down and re-booted, hoping that all would be well.
It wasn't!

I phoned a friend yesterday and asked him to access the site in question but he told me he had no problem with it ... said it was fine.
Sadly, here, the problem remains.
I don't really understand the reply from The Daily Mail, nor am I sure what to do now. I'm a bit stuck!

If it's of any help, I've attached a couple of pictures and would be very grateful for any replies to help me solve this please.
Thank you ... Michael.

downloaded, installed and ran uncleaner. it produced a list all relating to the c:\ drive and a coloured circle chart with no indication as to what the different segments represented ...

as a matter of course, i also ran my ccleaner programme (which i do on a regular basis).

the results after running both these programmes, showed no change.

If doesn't load correctly you can uninstall the addon (FriGate) as we can say then that DNS is not the problem.

ok ... i managed to get the frigate add-on which is now listed in the palemoon extensions list.
i know nothing as regards proxys though ...
in the small frigate window > proxy > control proxies, there's an empty HTTP field but i don't know what to put there or where to find the information to put there.
pardon my apparent ignorance but i'm a bit out of my depth at this point.

(additional text)
further to this post, i didn't continue with the proxy field because i didn't know what to enter but a few minutes ago when i clicked on the daily mail site, it suddenly came up on screen again. went and checked the laptop and that was working fine too although i hadn't added the frigate add-on yet.
so, i have no dea why this problem started in the first place nor how it corrected itself.
the bottom line is ... it's working again so i must thank all those who've had the patience to read my posts and come up with possible solutions.
problem solved ... thank you all.

With Frigate running in the browser it will use a default proxy that uses it's own DNS and overrides your ISP's DNS. So we have confimed that DNS is the issue. I'm busy now but will post details on changing DNS later or if anyone else wants to post details please do so.

Forget that field. The way you change proxies or enable/ disable on the fly is via the icon.

If everything is working either disable or remove the Frigate addon from PaleMoon.

Type about:addons in the address bar and press enter. Scroll down to Frigate and choose option to either disable or remove otherwise all browsing will be via proxy. That would affect PaleMoon updates and addon updates. (may not update or update correcly with Frigate enabled)

Thanks for posting the 'How to ..' info. regarding the FriGate add-on ...
very helpful.
Because the DM site is (still) working now, I didn't delete it but kept it in the list of other add-ons and disabled it just in case it's needed again.

All much appreciated.
Michael.

No problem. Keeping this type of addon disabled until needed is the best way. :)
