All I care about is the interface and is what this question points out :)
Just because MS it's values our privacy doesn't mean a whole lot to me when the interface is what I notice the most.
Animation adds are disruptive and cause slow loading is the bottom line which is unacceptable for me anyway.

For ads placed in the web page infrastructure simply using a desktop client, (a replacement for WLM, which was a desktop client not an email service), is all you need to do.

If you use a number of email clients these can either all be collected by the desktop client or they can be combined within one of the email clients and then collected by the desktop client, or you can use a web client to view them.

I never see any Outlook.com advertising, I use gMail to collect all my other desperate email accounts content and read it in either thunderbird or the gMail web client

Thanks Nigel because I am now having issues with Thunderbird I have started using Outlook but am a tad confused when you say that hotmail.com is now Outlook.com so do I have to let everyone know the change for *******@hotmail.com to *******@outlook.com?? If so I have a long and very tedious task ahead.

I am resigned to the fact that as you said they have to make money out of their products (MS) (as I do by working on past retirement age - to support my computing hobby) but I am just a little old and set in my ways to keep having these regular changes to something that I enjoyed using and thing is it always seems to be at short notice.

As far as I know there is no user action required to facilitate the change

I did receive an eMail, a year or two ago, from Microsoft, asking if I wished to change my Live.co.uk address to an outlook.com one which I agreed to, but this was an option only.

Microsoft have or are in the process of closing down the Hotmail.com and the Live.com, (and their derivatives, (Live.co.uk Etc) sites but there is not any need to change any of the actual eMail addresses.

Way I understand it with mine, where I did opt to change to Outlook.com, eMails sent to either my Hotmail or live.co.uk accounts( both the same account that had changed around 2011), were just re-directed to my new Outlook.com account.

If I replied this would show as being sent from my outlook account thus informing the sender of the change (they could use either address so it's not a decision that they have to make anyway).

At some time in the future this System may be applied to those accounts like yours where the old address is still used but I have not heard any talk of this so it will probably never happen.

I still see @Hotmail addresses on small company Vans and paperwork so that is a factor that needs to be considered by Microsoft

I made a separate outlook.com with the same first part but closed it :)

Hopefully that will not confuse things too much, they are after all the same address,

the part before the @ is the only differentiator between the various Microsoft email accounts

Fred@hotmail.com is the same account as Fred@live.com & Fred@outlook.com, and various other domains too.

Any mail addressed to any of the above aliases will currently find it's way to Outlook.com on the web

Not sure what would happen to a mail to Fred@Outlook.com if you have an off-line client pointing at hotmail.com or live.com

Yep if the same name is available would indeed make it easy to migrate all to @outlook.com otherwise a redirect isn't all that difficult as we have already seen :)
They may make creating anything but @outlook.com mandatory for new accounts but as far as auto or forced for older... accounts I doubt that is viable.

Ok well I just didn't want to be chasing my tail letting everyone know my new address and the ads I suppose if one thinks about it now dominate everything from TV radio, taxis buses etce etc ad infinitum/nauseum


Suppose it isn't so bad as the TV service out here on the free to air channels where we have duplicate channels repeating every other day, and they have the gall to say we have more access to more channels than ever and I would reckon at l east 25% of them are those really irritating shopping channels. Which I suppose makes Outlook look pretty damn good eh?
