There is the option to pay for ad-free use of outlook.com if you are willing to pay $20/year or you can use a client.
Thanks Derek and towns I shall have to put up with it and I guessed it would involve money - good old Microsoft
Hello ICIT2OL, I have outlook email also. To pay for the adfree version in Australia is now $37.95. I
paid for it last year, but now I have decided to pretend the ads are not there.:)
The internet is financed by adverts, you either accept that free use of a service will require that the provider to use adverts to pay for the costs, or they will find another way to finance the service such as a subscription or Pay per Use.
This is the way of the world It's not something that only one company does. Microsoft is actually one of the better companies in this, just go to one of the many "free" download sites to see what Advertisements used to pay for a site's cost can become
I know that, for me, looking at an advert in return for a Free email address and online storage is something I have no issue with
Yep well will have to grin and bear it I suppose - no such thing as a free lunch now anyway.
I work in health out here and slowly but surely one has to pay for ever more stuff as the time passes.
I still am not over the moon about them taking away a better service (WLM) and replacing it with what I find is an inferior and much slower service.
Hotmail.com, which is now re branded as outlook.com, actually pre-dates WLM by some considerable time and is and of course is a totally different and unrelated product. You could always run your Hotmail email through WLM, which was actually developed as a basic level desktop client when Hotmail was re-branded "Live Mail"
For whatever reason Microsoft have decided to withdraw support for their old low end desktop client, (probably because the vast majority of users are using the web based front end). there is always the top of the range Outlook desktop client, (nothing to do with Outlook.com), or many other free open source desktop clients such as thunderbird and EMClient that are in a lot of ways far superior to WLM and even Outlook
