My Hotmail Sent Folder saved Emails are Gone as of 1/1/2017

I have logged onto outlook via Windows live with my hotmail email address for quite awhile it's been saying Outlook. Last night i discovered all my sent emails from around 2013 on to the last two weeks emails are gone (from Sent Folder). I had no awareness as of this Change to the Outlook email service that I would lose my sent saved emails. Is there a way to retrieve them?
I read something during the stir of my finding out about this, that the newly improved Outlook could not support and carry over emails from the Hotmail. Give me a Break! If that's the newly and upcoming features that are that weak, I won't even use Outlook!
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Hello and welcome, @kleis:

Alas, I don't use either Hotmail or Outlook. So I cannot answer your specific question.

Until someone comes along who can, perhaps the replies to this ~identical thread at the other forum HERE might help explain what's going on?
(I assume that is your post/thread? If not, perhaps the replies might help anyway.)

I hope you manage to find and retrieve your lost messages.
Email mishaps can be nerve-wracking, for sure.

All I can say is try another email client. Thunderbird seems to be popular at the moment (currently I don't use it)

Take a look at this post:

    Thunderbird Links don't work

Suggest: As a test install Thunderbird and configure it to use IMAP for hotmail. Check sync settings for sent folder as in the screenshot in the above link. "Advanced" button then choose "Synchronize all messages regardless of age".

Maybe the missing emails will show up. If they do - let us know because there's a way to save all individual emails into a backup folder on your machine.

You can find insrtuctions for hotmail here:

Thunderbird and Hotmail | Thunderbird Help

When adding your hotmail account you need to check "Leave messages on server" and "Until I delete them" but uncheck the 14 days option. You must use the IMAP configuration and not POP3

The forums are not related or affiliated in any way.

I think @Callender answered that question.:)

And, yes, I agree with @Callender about changing email clients. I have used Thunderbird since shortly after I gave up my abacus. It has worked well for me all these many years.

    Cheers,

Thank you a lot Callendar (and MoxMom :) BTW, . . .So the 2 sites aren't connected but still, like i said, it's good knowing good sites. :)

    So
@Callendar, if i'm initiating a Thunderbird email account, it could be a positive shot to capture the lost emails from my Hotmail email and if anything, +/or for the most part, i could just use the account for that purpose of experiment-like as I have read up that one of the only set backs if maintaining T Bird EM, may tap resources on computer especially Ram (?) and for that, i may not want to use it in lieu of or instead of Outlook, but at the same time, may find it fine to keep on and use it all the same. But I'll see if i can get this going and would like to kind of keep in touch, if you don't mind, in following the instructions that i should be able to handle and see what may take or may not but i'll keep positive "outlook."

Thanks again for the helpful info and formula to try and beats otherwise what i haven't found on the internet 4 sure!

Happy New 2017 either and all the way*

I would login to the outlook web mail site and see if your missing emails are still available:

From my experience i can login to the web site with a hotmail or outlook email account.
From what i know any MS email account should be able to login to this web mail site.

When i'm logged in i can make changes for POP3/IMAP access etc. for my email client programs.

    Thanks for the suggestion David.
I have no problem logging in and in fact that's how i get the email notice that my thread here on the forum has been replied to. Or maybe i'm not understanding your recommendation to log in with a hotmail email as that's general outlook/hotmail account or that is the____@hotmail.com is my email and used Windows Live as favorite to click up & log on. Also, learned that Windows Essentials, if i have this correct(?) is part of the Hotmail or MSN that goes out or will be no longer supported as of this month (Jan. 2017(?)).
At any rate, the sent emails that are there go back to December 23. It's the prior-prior sent emails I'm trying to either retrieve or to ascertain why they were tossed if so and it looks most likely to be so...
As of last night or Dec. 31st is the definite day/time I discovered gonners-ville or that they're out/gone.
    But yes, thanks again*
