Win 7 turns my email client into a dizzying parade of trash

I use eM Client for my email, and it has been remarkably stable. But recently I've been getting crashes, followed by a wild parade of unclosed windows (like what used to happen when you won at Solitare--the open windows flash across the screen until it's completely full of trash). When this happens, I get a message from Windows 7: "...could not perform this operation because the default mail client is not properly installed. Internet Explorer."
I have checked my default programs, and eM Client is correctly listed there, and presumably correctly installed. I'm asking here, at the Windows 7 forum, because this seems like a Win 7 problem. If I'm wrong, please let me know. Thanks. --Fred Powledge.

Hi Fred, welcome to 7F! :)

Does this happen in Safe Mode? Use option one, if you've never ran in safe mode be prepared to see your desktop messed up a bit with your icons moved around, but this is normal and you can move them around to suit you, and when you boot back normally they'll go back to what your used to.

If it does or doesn't happen, run your anti-virus/malware product while in safe mode and see if it catches anything.
