No images showing in Windows Live Mail

I had a problem with Windows Live Mail not working and had to reinstall it and I have just managed to get it up and running again with one exception. Emails that contain images or photographs only show text, no images! Any idea why this would be?

Just to clarify the above I'm using Version 2012 (Build 16.4.3528.0331)

I have went into Options, Safety Options, Security and removed the checkmark from, 'Block images and other external content in HTML email.' I have left the checkmark in the box below, 'Show images and external content sent from email addresses in my safe senders list.' I have even tried rebooting to see if that made a difference but it didn't. Everything was working fine last week but since I reinstalled it I've had no images. Any ideas what I could do?

Hello Gozoman now I was under the impression that WLM was dumped quite while ago as it was out here anyway. I have had to use Outlook since then so how come you can still install it??

It did stop working but ONLY if you use Windows Live Mail 2012 (the PC email program) with a Microsoft email service such as Hotmail, Live, or outlook.com. If you use Windows Live Mail 2012 with any other email service – for example, if you have a BT, Virgin, Comcast, Yahoo, Gmail or other email address or indeed Sky that I use– then you don’t need to change anything. You are not affected. The change does not concern you. It's still possible to download the complete Essentials suite as I did and install it or part of it.

What can I say. You're the man. This was indeed the problem. I was worried about deleting this update as it was installed back in 2014 and I didn't see how it could be the problem but the description of the problem was identical to my problem right down to the black mark down the right hand side of the message window. Can I just tell anyone with a similar problem who delets this update not to panic afterwards. The usual message comes up saying that windows must restart. Then you get again the normal message that Windows is configuring and you expect this to take 3 or 4 minutes. It doesn't, it takes hours so please be patient and don't think it has screwed up. Once again thanks for the help. Time to back everything up to my external hard drive now that it's all sorted out.

SOLVED - Windows live on not displaying embedded images

Like many others, I did not want to jump into Windows 8.1 and then Windows 10 when, Windows 7 did what I needed it to do. That is no longer the case, I will be upgrading shortly. Having said that, a little over a month ago I picked up 6 x 7 viruses and repaired them with both Malwarebytes and F-Secure. When that happened, I could no longer use DragonDictate with Windows Live Mail something I wasn't willing to live without therefore, I wiped Out my OS drive and reinstall my Windows 7 64-bit Pro. Reinstalled everything and found that now not only did DragonDictate still not work with WLM but it no longer displayed in-line images?

I spent the last (over a month) searching the Internet trying everything I could think of to repair the problem. I found a link on this website (Windows Live Mail 2011 not displaying content correctly - Microsoft Community) to Microsoft Windows 7 troubleshooting page. Among the 50 some pages there I came across an answer from Microsoft that gave me an idea. The idea was to make Internet Explorer your default web browser along with all the proper settings in both (alt + F + O + S "Security" and in alt + F + O + M "Mail"). Because it's a reinstall of W7 and it's no longer supported so the only things I patched it with were SP1 and the SP1 Rollup.

I don't remember for sure whether I had removed IE 11 before all this happened or not, and I did not reinstall it after I rebuilt my OS and that's when I could no longer see embedded images in WLM.

The "SOLVE" for this in my situation was to install the necessary updates required prior to installing IE 11 and then installing the browser. I did not make it my default browser before checking WLM however found the images to be present! Glad that's repaired now on to fixing the Dragon crashing it issue.

This forum may now be closed for all I know, if not I certainly hope this finds it to those who are looking for help!
