IE10, IE11 will NOT reinstall into Win7 after op/sys reinstall/repair

Recently I had to *reinstall* the op/sys.
Something got into my user profile documents & corrupted the files including the network ability to connect to the internet.


Not wanting to dump the op/sys I chose the route of using the install disc to *overwrite* the current system to correct the corrupt dll's.
By using the *upgrade* option the install disc simply rewrote all the files to correct the corrupted files.
All went well, the system is running fine once again with the exception of Win7SP1 is packaged with IE8, and overwrote IE11 which is what I was using.


Now I cannot get either IE10 or 11 back into the system. I've researched and found some answers to this anomaly with regards to hybrid graphics cards or system restore not running or update turned off. Discount all of those scenerios, they do not come into play.


I am baffled as to what has happened, I do not know what has changed,

going to the Microsoft link on an explanation as to why the browser will not install there is an option to *manually* install the pre-requisite KB files, I cannot install any of the five of them as *the service cannot be started, don't have a device enabled associated with it*, (what device?) oddly they all are displayed as .msu files NOT .msi files,


every time I attempt this the install fails, a shortcut is placed on the desktop going to a link to Microsoft explaining the problem.


I have no idea what the h*ll is going on.....rather frustrated,



All I can get to install is IE9.

Im somewhat confused.

Normal course is to perform a repair install NOT an upgrade.
so what did you upgrade from and to, and using what?
(I suspect that the disc was W7 and you were running W7 SP1 NOT a good idea and im surprised it let you)

The Win7SP1 install disc does not visibly offer the option for one to *repair* the op/sys outside of repairing the boot if something has happened that hinders booting the system, or a memory diagnostic issue, or backing up from an image made earlier.

There are two choices for *installing* the operating system...

1. an *upgrade*
2. a clean install

I did not want to wipe out & lose the important data that was personal so I used the *upgrade* which in this case just overwrites the present system correcting any faults with any corrupted Microsoft dlls and it does not alter any present program files one has installed.

IT GOT INTO MY DOCUMENTS.

now if the Virus, i assume, got there then an upgrade/repair install will NOT remove it , and is possibly causing the problem.

What were you infected with??

if it WAS a virus I do not know, for the period of time that something WAS wrong booting was not an issue but it would take near 3 mins for the desktop to appear, I could not get the task manager to function properly, when the task manager did appear nearly half of the normally running system32 processes were missing, network connections was upset, when opening network & sharing centre there was no Homegroup at all so I could not get to the router/internet.

After the repair everything went back to normal with the exception of IE11 which is now not there & IE8 was put in place of it, (now IE9) & I can't get 10 or 11 back in.

A sweep of the system with Trendmicro Housecall & Malwarebytes finds no malware/viruses at all.

please run
sfc /scannow (note the space)
chkdsk /r

then SURT KB947821.
select the 32 bit option

REBOOT


post the logs C >> windows >> logs >> SURT
If there are any relating to IE11 in the same section post it as well.

is that downloaded SURT really 230mb?

it's not just a simple run command item is it?

I ran the sfc/ scan.....produce a very large file to be viewed. To large to upload to view here,

chdsk is still on the list

Problem solved........

I had to put this down & walk away from it seeing as I was frustrated with it.

a local tech shop rep clued me in as to what the problem could be & what it did turn out to be....

I had to completely clear out everything in the *Software Distribution* folder found in the*windows* folder.

There are 7 folders in there all related to *update*

Authcabs
Datastore
Download
Postrebooteventcache
Scanfile
Selfupdate
Wuredir


clearing them all out removed the barrier that was preventing IE10 or 11 from going back in.

Seeing as after the repair I had not done an update of any sort nothing in there was of a valuable nature.

Now that 11 is back in I can do an update at my leisure.
