at wits end here..

friend has Windows seven laptop and for years happily received her e-mail from BT via Live Mail.
About three weeks ago, something bad happened, corruption or hacking, don't know, and she was advised to change her password, which she did, and she can still get to her web mail, using this password, but nothing comes down on her email client and she is told the password or user name is invalid - even though they work fine on the web. BT were not interested in helping, insisting that there end was fine as she could access her e-mail via their site, so aside from checking she had all the correct server settings (she did) there was nothing to be done, so, today the machine came to me in the hope I could work some magic. Well I have not. I tried eMclient, Thunderbird and tried also to install a fresh version of Live which I downloaded just before MS pulled the plug on Essentials. That failed and now even the in situ version of Live will not open, so I have only made things worse.

I tried creating a new e-mail identity in Google, thinking that I could get that to fetch the e-mail from BT, and then Thunderbird could get them from Gmail - but that does not seem to be working either. Possibly I have not set it up right, or BT is blocking access to that as well. I am just too tired to think at present, what with a horrible cold and trying to fix this for most of the day. Can anyone please point me to a tutorial that explains how I can get emails sent from BT to Google - if they will come? I don't know what else I can do. Very upsetting. No she does not have Outlook...

ps, if I get BT to forward to Gmail, will they disappear from the BT webpage? She uses POP
