How do I set notifications for new email in Outlook on Win7 64

I still have windows 7 on my laptop. I have outlook mail for a hotmail account. I want a notification in the task bar or somewhere that tells me I have new email before I open it. How do I do that?

    Thank you.

This MS website should help you.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...ure-in-outlook

It does mention in this article that Desktop Alerts will only work with POP 3 type email accounts & will not work with IMAP email accounts.

I don't think I made my self clear. A year or so ago, MS transferred all hotmail, msn, windowslive, etc. to Outlook. NOT the Outlook mail that is part of Microsoft Office. All of those clients were IMAP. They are now collectively outlook accounts, but they are still IMAP. To access the mail, I simply sign in to the hotmail.com website. (Its now says Outlook Mail on the name banner) and the incoming mail server is imap.outlook.live.com. Is there a way to get "notifications" of new mail in the task bar?

Thanks for clarifying that. It seems that email notifications in Outlook.com is not possible.
