Firefox lagging, dragging and sagging

Sorry if the title is a bit weird, but so is the problem I want to discuss.

I keep my Firefox (32bit) up to date and NOT overloaded with add-ons.
I'm using "Startpage.com" as my search engine, because it's much safer than 'Google'.

But one day, out of the blue, when I'd type anything into the search bar there would be a hesitation between what I type and what would appear in the search bar. In some instances, FF would even become grey and "Not Responding". Eventually it would come back.

It was very time consuming and aggravating to me, so I did what any red blooded American Boy would do....
I uninstalled Firefox and re-installed it using the very latest version. Now it's working Perfect again.

Now I don't know whether the problem was actually some failure in Firefox itself, or if something got into the program or attached to it and was causing the problem. But in any case, a quick UN-Install of Firefox, and then a RE-Install of the program solved the problem.

I've since seen the same thing on two of my friend's PC's and I used the same FIX, and it worked perfectly well.

If anyone knows of another FIX, I'd be glad to hear it.

Cheers Mates!

Refresh is a better option a remove doesn't clear all the data refresh does

Are you referring to a Windows refresh or a Firefox refresh?
I'm just assuming that you mean a Firefox refresh, but, that's something I'm not familiar with.
How would you do that?

The last time I did a re-install of Firefox, it fixed the problem without destroying all the saved Bookmarks and log-in data. That was a good thing!

Just now, my own FF updated to ver. 54.0. I'm seeing no difference.

But you can just install the FEBE extension instead of downloading the .xpi file.

Nice work guys!
But, I just downloaded the upgrade to Firefox 54.0 and everything is still working 100%, so I won't be doing any resets or refreshes today.

But I've taken notes, and I will keep them handy for the next time that I or one of my customer has a problem with FF going into S....L....O....W mode.

What I really hate to do is wipe out someone's Bookmarks and/or saved Log-In info. That makes me look bad!
So I'll do all my testing on a little Dell laptop that I use for testing purposes.

Thanks guys!

That just means that it wasn't a fresh install of Firefox and that the installer found your old profile or elements of it and imported what it found. There is no way that bookmarks and login data should appear following a clean install of Firefox that was performed in order to fix problems.

FEBE will backup and restore login data. The thing is it's best to backup then fully remove all trace of Firefox then reboot before installing a fresh copy. Then you can restore your old profile from backup or elements of it.

The sure fire way to keep data is to copy the Profile folder and .ini file elsewhere ( before you start messing about so that you have a separate full backup.

A clean install of Firefox usually fixes issues then it's possible to restore profile elements. if you don't remove the old profile before the clean install then it's possible to experience exactly the same problems were happening with the old install.
