Online "Windows Live" vs. desktop "Windows Live Mail"

I use "Windows Live Mail" as my email client on Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. Ever since I got Windows 7 and WLM, WLM was configured to automatically sign in to "Windows Live" whenever it opened. Now it is many years later, and I would like to 'divorce' my WLM from online "Windows Live" because a) I don't use any of the Windows Live features, and b) it causes problems with my WLM. But I see that many of my contacts are not in my desktop WLM app, so I assume they are online in my "Windows Live" account. So the question is:

How do I transfer contacts from my "Windows Live" account online to my desktop "Windows Live Mail" app?

Can I drag in Windows Explorer or do they have to be in some way imported from within the app? My WLM seems to have a menu command to import Messages, but I don't find any way to import Contacts. If it can be done in Win Explorer, I need to know where the relevant folders are.

Thanks for any help!
Janet
