since Firefox update... drop list "Open in new tab" etc... won't open

automatic firefox update last week, now the drop list "Open in new tab" "save" etc... won't open or opens slowly
also spelling suggestion won't open or opens slowly
takes a long time for the "box" to form... more time to fill with text....
    (opens faster on Explorer)

following Firefox solutions, I lost my speed dial, favorites etc... but did not fix the problem

is there a better browser? I liked firefox for the Addblock, speed dial, lack of junk (hate being force fed Explorer and Chrome's pages... bing too limited as a search engine)

and found Firefox and Mozilla would not let me sign in, say my password is incorrect and does not send me a link to reset or allow me to set up a new account to ask for help from Firefox or Mozilla.... sigh....

Hello pleiades357 mate there is anew version of Chrome out now and it maybe worth a try. I am using Edge, Chrome and FF on my machines and if the ads are the problem then why not try this if you try Chrome Adblock Plus - Surf the web without annoying ads!

If you don't like it it is always removable eh?

People have been reporting that starting in FF 54 or 55 the user profile is no longer backwards compatible, so you can't rollback, because your profile will effectively be corrupted.

Mozilla are smashing up the old version of Firefox, so they can copy Google Chrome.
Various add-on won't work until they are rewritten (if ever).

Do you have a backup HDD image you can use to restore your system?

I've been using Pale Moon for 4 years. :)

"NoScript", "Tab Mix Plus" and my edited "Personal Menu" add-ons work properly.
    Customisation works properly too.

"Download Helper" doesn't work (for me) anymore though.

Pale Moon is the default browser in my physical W7 installs.

I still use FF in XP, my Windows VMs and in Linux Mint.

    thank you all,
    and will look into palemoon
following is a personal rant...... you might want to skip it.........
    went to google... sucks
but works better than the other awful (or limited, like ixquick, but searches too limited) options... searches all geared to paying sellers, shopping and information searches result in sellers not related to search, shopping searches lead to offshore sites.... why would I purchase an OPI nail polish from Malaysia? when there are local sellers.... Disney gift item shopping leads to porn.... and total political bias ... ok, google hates Trump, enough already... I'm looking for a story not their political bias.....

sigh... I miss the old days when I could search the history of time zones and not get links to designer watches at Macy's

    rant done..........................

    thank you!

I'm also using Pale Moon, it's a great browser If PM doesn't work out for you try Waterfox it's a bit more focused on compatibility with newer FF stuff.

I use Duckduckgo search engine. They were pretty crappy when I started using them, but nowadays I never even go to Google, and when I do it turns out that Google has nothing useful to show me either. Plus DDG has the "bangs" which are pretty cool search features.

I feel your pain, I would also like to go back to the 90s/early 00s web, but with DDG if nothing else I don't worry about Google ads and datamining anymore

not that I have anything to hide... but it creeps me out to see how much my searches for shopping are shared with other sellers...

I don't know if it is more creepy our elitist tech puppet masters think they have the right or the way so many drink the purple kool-aid and agree to have their lives shared with "the world"
then they are surprised when someone uses the info in some destructive way...

ddg did not do much for searches some time ago, but I haven't tried recently, thank you

the less well "gaggle" performs the better the others look ;-)
