MS has closed WLM; can't use it

About 15 hours ago Microsoft sent a pop-up to my WLM interface, "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." Then the program did close, and it still won't work. (If I load it, the same routine follows.) Is there anything I can do to be able to use WLM?

You will probably have to switch over to Outlook.com which MS are using to replace WLM. Outlook will allow you to continue using your email address, such as a Hotmail one.

Read through this MS website & sign in & see if it suits you. If it does you should be able to download & install it. You should then be able to transfer your existing contacts over to Outlook.

    Thanks, Ranger4.

A report now from another WLM user supports your assessment. I previously knew MS was abandoning WLM, but did not suspect it would without warning make the program permanently unavailable. (It also abandoned XP, but did not stop folks from continuing to use it.) To make a bad matter worse, the MS Community will not process my question! This seems to be the height of irresponsibility.

They really did not abandon WLM without warning. In fact I received numerous warnings as I was using WLM with Outlook 2013, informing me to switch over to Outlook.com for WLM. Outlook.com will work with MS Office versions of Outlook such as Outlook 2013.

You could probably uninstall and re-install or use some other technique to be able to continue using WLM. It is really old news that MS would no longer support WLM but that doesn't mean it should stop working altogether.

MS first revealed that they would stop supporting the protocol required to send/receive mail from Hotmail/Outlook. Outlook went thru a major revision about a year or more ago and that's when WLM stopped working with my Hotmail account which forced me to change to a different email client. WLM could still be used to access other email accounts such as gmail.

I ended up switching to Thunderbird which I personally do not like as well as WLM but it was the best alternative that I found.

You can also try the repair function in WLM and see if that helps

    [Control Panel>Programs>Programs and Features]
Right click WLM and select uninstall/change then choose repair.
