Probably NOT same deal, but after upgrade to 57! I was lucky and had a prior v52 still on hand. Ran that, had to reinstall a lot of extensions that were blown off by v57. (Did have trouble trying to export / import into a trial of PaleMoon, ) - but all was there when I did the Retro install. As you probably know - files are in Users/whosies//appdata/roaming/mozilla/firefox/profiles/ @@@##??.default/-> key3.db & logins.json ... Hopefully you can find a copy somewhere.. Do Not Upgrade past v55, all goes to Heck quickly.

Yes, I had 53 saved to use if there was any problem, so i installed the 53, but upon restart it was showing 57!! Not sure why and the 57 may be causing the issues.

A lot of installers these days are just stubs that actually grab the latest version off the net, you do see some companies provide full installers that contain a particular version (for use by those installing many multiple copies), but you have to specifically search them out

Well, after the help I received over at Mozillazine, I'm loving the speed if FFv57.
Have my tabs below the nav/search bar, where they belong IMNSHO, have resurrected the classic look of the buttons on the nav/search but still a little too large. Need to play with those .css scripts some more but I have it where I can work with it, no more thoughts of migrating to another browser. Except in the two cases of my home built PVRs, running single core Sempron 145s, for compatibility with the legacy TV capture cards, originally designed to run on 286+class cpus because of the hardware MPEG 2 decoders.
No 64 bit drivers for them.

No longer necessary in these days of quad cores being the standard build. In those two machines the only need for a browser are TV listings and places like theweathernetwork.com. In those two I'm running an nLited version of XP Pro, for fast recovery from Hydro drop-outs. When the auto update hit earlier this year the OS was detected and THE only upgrade option offered was ESR, no choice was given, so migration to an XP friendly browser will be mandatory next summer, good candidates are K-Meleon or QupZilla [recent name change to Falkon] that I was testing. That will all change when ATSC 3.0 hits the airwaves and I'm looking forward to the new hardware possibilities.

    Anyhoo...............List of features available in this project · Issue #2 · Aris-t2/CustomCSSforFx · GitHub

That and Mozillazine, the Classic Theme Restorer thread has all you need, start at or around page 370 of thread. You can't hurt anything, its all copy & paste, goof, just delete, restart FF keep adding or subtracting until you get it working the way you want.
Was disappointed in the number of Web Extensions currently available but that should increase as time goes by.

    Good Day.

BlueGuy - does all this carry over to FF58 + etc ?

Just curious if all the mods you did are porting to FF upgrades?

me - still running 56.0.2, 32 bit on a win7pro 64 bit machine. It's Now hanging / crashing almost daily - 6 tabs open - seems really slow and busy ( - in the background - doing sometihng - 2+ megs of mem usage when it hangs, right now about 500K in use . Email and Firefox only applications running. )

looking for alternatives ( hopefully minimal impact on the wife's usage, I really don't want to hear about it.. )

    1) Did you follow the URL? Aris specifically listed his scripts there because the new architecture won't allow extensions to manipulate the U.I., only through the userChrome.css file found in the chrome folder. If not there, make one as suggested, its only a text file, that is why I said you can't hurt anything. Screw up, delete the errant script[s] and start over. This is why he labelled it for 57+ .
Just had an update to 57.0.1 arrive after a reboot.

    2) Curious, I thought is was just me with my older browsers [and TB] because I'm using the portable versions exclusively[USB-worse interface ever! no wonder certain techies call it The Dummies' SCSI] and 57 made a new profile while importing the settings it could. Once I make a new drive [or even an internal dedicated SSD] place fresh copies within, then recall most recent saved data backup, fresh profiles should cure it. I suggest you try with fresh profile too, but backup the data first. The advantage for me going portable, it is easier to locate these programme sub-folders, rather than digging through the C:\ drive. Other than that, John Haller at PortableApps doesn't alter code, merely compiles for use within the PA platform, but this saves me from having to re-install for each new build, as I just carry flash drives from one machine to another. Re-thinking that though since snippy border guards not only want to search through electronics, but any data cards you may be carrying so I'm looking into secure cloud services {def NOT idiot services like dropbox though} where I can keep, d/l and delete encrypted files.

    3) If you want retro, look to SeaMonkey, U.I. hasn't changed in ages, as well as the two I mentioned, checking that out for XP.
