Gmail Too Many Attempts, Try Again In Few Hours Message?

Hey all im not sure where to put this message in what subforum so i posted it here. Can a mod post this in the right subforum if thats the case>


I recently had cleared my chrome history on my laptop. I also flew to another country as well on that day. When im trying to log into my gmail account, i had put in my password which is correct. But it then ask me to type in the recovery email address to confirm. I looked at it and i had a few gmail accounts with similar spelling etc. I typed it in and it said that is not correct. Then i typed in another email and it was not correct. Im not 100 percent sure but i might have misspelled one letter by mistake etc.


It also gives you another option as in answer your security question. However, that question i could not answer because i had this gmail account for a very long time already. I tried it a few times and it was not correct etc.


Does anyone when i can log back into my gmail account? When it said wait few hours to attempt again because of too many attempts. Well i waited at least 7 hours etc and i got that message. Can someone tell me how long i have to wait to try again or is there someone i could contact/email on this issue? It does show my contact recovery email partially such as imagine my recovery email was say paulyjames900909090@msn.com. Well it would display something like paul......0@msn.com and want you to fill in the rest etc. But i have several emails that look like the one shown but it said it was not correct and it must have been due to me adding a letter in by mistake.


The only other thing is i even got a message to my phone that uses google voice/hangouts that is connected to my email that google has blocked someone with the password for my gmail account from signing in to the account. So does this mean i could log into my google/gmail account on my phone then? The thing is i have to access my gmail account from my computer. Anyone have advice on this? How long do i have to wait until i could log into gmail account from my computer? I mean it was 7 hours already at least until i attempted to log in again. And has anyone who has google voice/hangouts had this message received on their cell?


When i tried to log into my other gmail and other accounts, i got message we detect unusual activity etc since its a new ip address. The thing is i have used this ip address because but it was a long time ago etc. My other email accounts i have no issues because when it asked me for recovery email related to it, i typed in the right one. But this is my main gmail account.

Anyone? I have to access my email. Should i wait a while until i attempt to log in again? My email password is correct and i know the recovery email to it.

@paulyjames unfortunately there isn't much we could do rather than the wait, I've had to wait for 24hours once during account lockdown.

if you know your email address exactly, try forgot password option instead of logging in directly. They would send you the recovery link to your email address or an OTP to your connected mobile number. I've recovered twice using these methods in the past.

Hi there. Well after you got the message, did you just wait at least 24 hours before you tried again? Or you tried again after say 8 hours, didnt work, wait 12 hours didnt work, then wait 24 overs then it did work. Right now im just waiting longer before trying to sign in.


Well the thing is the email address linked to it, its either one of 2 emails that i use. So if its not this one, its the other one. But im pretty certain i know which one it is. The thing is im also pretty certain i entered the correct email address as well though.


So after a wait a bit longer, should i try forget password instead? I dont want to do it one way then it get lock again or whatnot, then i wait longer etc.

I don't exactly remember the msg I got but I think after I had the msg - account lockdown, I didn't try logging on for another day, as it was just an additional account & not my main account, didn't want to risk any further (probably or had the lockdown msg with the duration, it was over 2 or 3 years ago).

If you're still having issues post 24hours try posting on the productforums of google, there may be google staff around to help you out on this regard.

In the older days email providers used to provide email based customer support I'm not certain if they are still doing it, considering the massive amount of online traffic these days. (Once Yahoo customer service team helped me restore my account after I lost my logins & didn't remember security questions, this was before mobile phones took over)

Hey there. I was able to type in my password into my gmail account. When it ask me to list the recovery email address i added to it...


let say my email for the account is paulyjames@gmail.com


The email that i believe i added to it is


lets just say its paulyjames30020012@gmail.com or im pretty certain that is the one. Let say i also might have added a yahoo email to it and say its paulyjamesmouserocket@yahoo.com. I just made these up.


Well the email that they showed is something like pau....... @Gmail.com


So i have to enter the recovery email. First off, that would mean the recovery email has to be gmail and not yahoo right? The other thing is when they put down pau........ and say they have 8 dots... before the @Gmail.com... are they telling me after the u theres 8 letters or not?


Because the recovery email that i added to this gmail account...im pretty certain its the gmail email. But i tried 2 of them and they didnt work. I then tried a yahoo one because that email actually is the same amount of letters as the ......... 8 dots after the pau........ if you get what im saying. The thing is the recovery email has to be one of these 3 emails. It cannot any other email.


So basically i tried 3 different emails, 2 gmail and 1 yahoo. They all start the same pretty much. None of them work. I entered it 3 times only and didn't attempt to do any try as i dont want to lock the account again. So does anyone have any tips on what i should do now? Its 100 percent one of those 3 email accounts. There is no other email that i would add as a recovery email.

The account won't work from phone either as they stated it was blocked, unless you've used your phone with the same IP before while logging on. You could give it a try as if its the same ip address, you may not have issue logging on but you may be prompted to change password after logging onto your account along with check your security questions.

its actually strange they allowed alternative email to be an gmail one, when I created accounts, they asked me to use some other provider. So all my gmail accounts are cross linked to my yahoo account. But if they've shown you the recovery mail address is @Gmail.com, you should enter the same. Don't worry about the dots its not accurate always.

Didn't you set any mobile number associated with the account ? If you've done, you could probably use the method if you've set it. The last time when I forgot my password I got the OTP to my mobile number & then reset it via laptop. I'm not a big fan of using emails & banking related data on smart phones.

Hi there. My laptop and phone have used the current IP address before. But this was a very long time ago... over a year at least.


Well the thing is on my phone, there is my google hangouts app where i could make phone call and text. Im still signed into it. I could sign out of i want but there is no point of this right? The thing is the email that im logged into my phone, its actually another gmail account if that makes sense. So when i click on mail, i can view my emails but its my other gmail account not the main one.


The alternative email or recovery email you talk about, it should be a different provider? So you telling me yours showed like xxxxxxx@yahoo.com? The thing is it showed the first few letters such as pau....... @Gmail.com. My other emails that could be the recovery email all start with pau....... @Gmail.com or pau.......@yahoo.com. So i tried the gmail one it didn't work. I got locked out of account. Then waited a while and was able to log in again. I typed the same gmail one didn't work. Then i typed in my yahoo one which had to be in it because theres only 3 other emails it could be. That didn't work. So how could this be then? Its one of these 3 only.


I do not know if i set a mobile number or not. The thing is if i did, it probably was my google voice number that is associated with the exact gmail account. So would there be any conflict? The thing is i actually received a text message to my google hangouts app that said G-XXXXXX is your verification code. This was when i tried to log into my gmail account. But i dont recall if they told me to enter it or not at the moment, i think they did.


But in my situation, i have my password. The recovery email has to be one of those 3 emails. There is no other ones. Other ppl might have issues if they dont remember their password or something like that. I have everything. Also i did travel that same day which is why this happened. However, i really believe this is due to me clearing my history/cookies etc as it say it recognize new device.
