IE or explorer error on a clean reinstalled HP

    Hello again

Now I've stumbled upon an error I've never seen before in my life.
I have reinstalled my media computer (there are other threads about it).
From the start with IE8 I could not click on more information about an update in the WUC browser did not open so I had to open IE separately and manually enter the link. I thought it resolves after I install IE9. But the problem is still there.
Now I have installed MSE and when I click on help, I get this message.

    Message:
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------
    Ht tp :// go. microsoft . com /fwlink/?LinkID = 195291

The class has not been registered
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------

So I guess there is something missing in some regfil .. But what?

    HP Pro3010MT original
Installed with factory recovery disks win7 pro x64 OEM on a clean HDD. 360Gb
1x360Gb Hidden boot C: D: and hidden recovery
    2x2TB E: and F:
    1xDVD/RW G:
I have Installed SP1 and all security updates and some selected optional updates and IE9

This error was before I started to install the updates, that's when I first noticed it.

Has any of you encountered this or know the solution?

    //Marie

Edit I had to destroy cohesion in the link so there wouldn't become a hyperlink

    Hi Marie,

thats usually an unregistered .dll message

As this is an additional program, (MSE), WD is the base AV, uninstall it and re-install.

After thiis please run the 2 standard fix tools
    KB947821 - SURT
Download System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB947821) [October 2014] from Official Microsoft Download Center

and from an elevated command mode
    sfc /scannow

if either show errors post the logs

Hello and thanks for your reply. :)
    Okay it's scanning right now.

But if the error was before I installed MSE.. so I find it hard to believe that the MSE may have something to do with it.
It was just that I used MSE to make explorer open internet explorer.

KB947821 is on my bad list of updates. So how can it be helpful? I ask because I want to understand more. :)

    Hi Marie,

if the error appeared with only Windows Defender installed then the >>OS<< install was corrupt
BUT you wrote now i've installed MSE and got the error ???
Installing Microsoft Security Essentials, MSE, would have replaced WD and all of its files and you should be good to go.
MSE does not open either IE or Explorer.exe - 2 TOTALLY different things
    - remember my comment in the other post re Malwarebytes free.

As for KB947821 being on your BAD list thats WAY wrong
Its the Standard repair tool for W7, and whatever it reports needs to be fixed
Whoever told you its BAD needs to go back to School

    No errors

I read about the KB its only to fix windows update problems or problems to install SP1.

    Copied from MS
(Fix Windows Update errors by using the DISM or System Update Readiness tool.
Windows updates and service packs may fail to install if there are corruption errors. For example, an update might not install if a system file is damaged. The DISM or System Update Readiness tool may help you to fix some Windows corruption errors.)

Installing the KB now.. had to do a recovery point first.. so i can undo the installation encase it doesn't work.

Yes my error was before I installed SP1 or any updates. I could not open more information about an update in Windows Update. That's how I discovered that Windows programs could not open Internet Explorer to lead me to Microsoft's website for information or help information.

All of my updates and SP1 and MSE and IE9 I installed without any problems or error messages.
That's why I think there's something missing in some registry.

Yes i remember your hint about Malwarebytes.
It's a clean installation with only WUC as has connected to the internet. So it's a 99.999999% chance it couldn't be any virus or malware.

But I am a bad girl, so I refuse to take its BAD back to School. *hahahaha*

    jokes aside

The installation of the KB is done and the result is....... The problem remains.
If I open windows update and then click on more info about an update, the browser will not open .. absolutely nothing happens .. no error message no web window opens. nothing.
In MSE if I click on help and show secrecy policy .. then I get the error message I wrote in the first post. A link with the message class has not been registered. and no web window opens

    Testing sfc/scannow again

    No errors again.
And i looked in windows logs and I recreated the error message over and over again, an then looked into the windows logs and at the time stamps. Not a trace of any of it that have something to do with errors or warnings

Edit: This is really a weird error. *Hahaha*

    Hi Marie,

can you post the Checksur log, and your CBS log.

wouldnt hurt to run the BSOD tool either, actually provides a fair bit of info.
