Google chrome saving random login details

I need an expert advice on this.

If i go to a site and enter a random username and password - Google chrome will still save this in saved passwords if you click on the key on the top right corner of the URL bar. Why does google still save wrong login details in cookies and saved passwords?

Also where does your computer store login details other than your web browser? So if you completely wipe your browser history is your login details still stored somewhere in C drive?

I'm not an expert.. just giving my 2cents based on my experience.

I don't think so login-cookies are saved anywhere else than the browser other than ofcourse the backup files of the browser. If you clear your browser cookies, it should remove all of the stored logins & new saved logins will save in the earlier location - at least that's what has been happening to me. I do take regular backups of my browser though.

About the other question, have u selected "Save Logins" in your browser, while logging on the site (it asks immediately after clicking on login button on the site, at times it gets clicked when you press enter twice as well) ? I made this mistake once for one of my account & it keeps prompting me to fill in details - its actually intended to save our time but it can be irritating at times as well. If you choose do not save logins for this site - you won't have this issue though. The other option is using incognito version of your browser, if you don't want your logins to be saved.

The password data is held within chrome's encrypted data store. It is managed at chrome://settings/passwordsAndForms Simply copy and past the address into the browser bar and hit enter then expand the advanced section to seethe options

If set to Chrome will save a password for any user you use at the appropriate point, if you give a random user and password it will save the User Name and the password. It will only reject a password if the same user is entered with a different password.

The browser does not know what users or passwords you may need to use or the related passwords until you tell it - It will save any that you feed it and if you use a different password with a stored username it will simply offer to store the new password in it's database.

The username and password is only processed by the server side code on the internet as far as the browser is concerned it is just data to be stored and referenced when needed.

Hi Barman58, one last question. When entering a random login details and saving it. Will this be stored anywhere else on the PC other than google chrome login data

Not that I am aware, chrome does not set usernames or passwords that is done by us, the user.

If , when asked to log in, if we provide a "new" set of credentials, (by mistyping the actual user and or password ), if the settings are to save the credentials for pages the browser will replace it's record for the page being accessed with the new info. It may ask for a confirmation but sometimes not dependent on how we set it up

Both parts of a set of credentials have to match the stored info on the website so it's important that we check before we click ok .
