Waterfox, Yahoo tab, NASA article, RED screen lockup

with A - "you have a problem, c/b malware"- "support.windows.com" or call a toll free 866 number. don't close this tab, don't shut down your computer, blah, blah.

Took a few tries to get Waterfox to close. Ran malware bytes, downloaded latest MS malware scan, no problems found.

Fired off waterfox, again loaded and locked with the red screen.
Started a second copy of waterfox, and that allowed me to close the red sceen tab.

Anybody else run into this? I try and stay away from yahoo.com as much as possible, but every once n awhile.....

If you start task manager, you can terminate locked up program without having to reboot, etc. Most everyone surfing the internet will eventually be presented with similar screens, I know I have. I also receive calls from Indian accented individuals purporting to be from "Windows" TECH SCAM.

Right-click taskbar, choose Start task manager, click on locked/browser, etc., click end task.

Question: Why are you still using Waterfox?

Your System specs don't indicate Anti-virus, Anti-malware, Anti-exploit, or Anti-ransomware are installed on your machine. Malwarebytes premium incorporates Anti-exploit and Anti-ransomware.
Do you have any or all of these installed?
Also, do you run an add blocker? uBlock Origin, or AdBlocker Ultimate, HTTPS everywhere, Disconnect, Cookie Auto-delete, or HTML5 Autoplay?

^^ Waterfox is a perfectly decent browser, no less safe than Chrome, Firefox etc.

OP, get an adblocker and NoScript, this combo should save you from this kind of crap in the future. Without this you aren't safe in any browser

If you can get Waterfox to start (best do it with internet disconnected), change the homepage, check if there are any plugins/addons that you don't recognize and remove them, also clear the cache. If the problem persists, press Windows key + R (see screenshot) and run waterfox -P to start the profile manager, and create a new profile. This will give you a new clean slate for Waterfox, free from previous addons, cache, history, viruses etc. while the old profile remains on the disk if you want to return to it.

    I agree with @BrainDamage
Didn't have an opinion on Waterfox. Just curious about usage.
To locate and remove most crapware, toolbars, etc. You can try running these safe, free programs. Leave on default settings, delete anything they find.
    ADWCleaner
    SuperAntiSpyware
    HitmanPro 3.8 (64-bit)
    Malwarebytes
I run these on a regular basis in addition to real-time AV, AM, AE, & AR.

    Hi! :)
Do you have links to the websites, so I can read about them and not get them downloaded right away?
