    Thunderbird keeps asking for password

On my Win 7 machine Thunderbird asks for password to my default email account every time I start it. It was not always like this; this has started only recently. I have not installed new hardware on my Win 7 laptop for ages. Can any one please give me an idea how to get rid of this nuisance? Thanks in advance.

    Hi tonyvella,

I don't use Thunderbird myself but I saw a post some time back that gave the below solution which seemed to work for the OP:

In Thunderbird click Tools, Account Settings, in the Left hand pane click Outgoing Server, click Edit, under Security and Authentication click DESELECT User name and password, click OK TWICE.

    I hope this helps!

It could also be a case where the email provider has changed their policy, and now require a password every time you access your account - check the account details and ensure that your password is included in thunderbird and is correct. Also it's sometimes set so that the password needs to be used with the outgoing side of the system. Your email provider should provide a guide to setting up, including any recent changes

When I click edit I do not get the option of deselecting anything.

I did find this which may be relevant

You must update your Rogers email account settings - Rogers Community

You may want to follow up with them as quite often it can take 6 months or more for these type of security changes to actually come into full use (to give users time to change things

I have also removed the image you includes as it contained personal info that spammers could use

Thank you very much. I don't much understand these things. I shall get in touch with Rogers but I don't think they support Thunderbird.

If they give you the information or a link to go to, and you cannot understand how to perform the task in Thunderbird I'm sure we have members here who can help to get you up and running :)

Thank you very much Barman 58.
I called Rogers and got a very short answer: We do not support Thunderbird.
That's it. In the meantime I still have to enter my email password every time I start TB.
Guess I have to get used to it.
Incidentally, on my other laptop, Win 10, TB goes directly to my inbox and d/l whatever is waiting on the server. Go figure!

If you want and you can find the instructions for Outlook or Windows Mail, I'm sure we can translate those into TB instructions

Sorry it took me so long to answer. I had to spend a couple of days in hospital for tests; I am 74 with 2 heart attacks and these inconveniences occur frequently. While in hospital I came up with an idea: what if I were to delete my Rogers email account and create a new one? Well, when I got home I did just that and now the darn problem is ended. I still don't understand because all the entries in my new Rogers account are exact as the ones I deleted. I mean exact. So now I can mark the problem (thread) as solved. Thanks one and all for your patience and help. Tony V.
