Opera Browser Can't Connect to Internet

I turned our desktop computer (I'm typing on it now) on this morning and found that Opera cannot connect to the Internet. Every time I try, I get an error screen telling me there is no Internet connection. But there is; the taskbar icon shows that I am connected with an excellent signal strength. Furthermore, I CAN connect to the Internet via Internet Explorer. Opera works fine on all our other computers. Right before I turned off this desktop computer last night, there were no problems with Opera and I sent email to our daughter. I doubt that our dog woke up in the middle of the night, turned the desktop back on, and screwed something up.

Hi Zenesz, welcome to Seven Forums,

Do you have Turbo enabled by any chance?
If so, uncheck Opera Turbo in the menu.
Perhaps you could also try cleaning the Profile!

    I hope this helps!

Thank you for your input. I have never used Turbo (and it's still unchecked), so that's not the source of the problem. I'm reluctant to do anything that will remove the items in our Speed Dial because we use the Speed Dial links every day. I guess I could open each one, copy the link to a Word document, and then uninstall Opera followed by a reinstall.

    Hi Zenesz,

This might give you some ideas: Frequently Asked Questions (Opera for Windows)

    I hope this helps!

Are you sure it's not set to use a proxy?

Zenesz. You could try uninstalling Opera using Programs & Features in Control Panel to uninstall it. Reboot the computer & using IE download a fresh copy of Opera & install it. Your Speed Dial settings will be retained as will any saved passwords etc..

As a test, Opera offers a portable install option (look for it while installing) that won't affect at all your settings. Put a copy in your desktop for testing and you can try it with a clean profile, while still retaining your entire settings.

That is very useful information Alejandro85.

I think I might have found the source of the problem. I found this:

Opera is using your computer's system proxy settings toconnect to the network.

I don't use a proxy server with our Xfinity wireless setup.

No clue what to do about this.

That's what samuria proposed in an earlier thread!
