Chrome Auto Update Questions...

1: Chrome never notifies me that an update is available..

2: When I click on 'check for updates' it automatically updates Chrome whether I want to or not..

Is there a way for Chrome to check automatically for updates and ask first before installing them??

Thanks

No, I haven't figured it out.
From Google searches you can't set it up that way but, what irks me more is I never know if there is an update until I check for one and then, if there is one, it just installs it without asking first if I want to install it.
Oh well...Thanks for the reply..

I think you will find that most browser programs do update automatically & no update option is given. I use Opera & updates occur automatically.

This does not worry me as having the latest update means I probably have better protection from hackers & malicious attacks.

Thanks Ranger but that only answers part of my question..
I's not as automatic as you may think...At least on mine, like I said above, it never updates until I click the 'check for 'updates' option and then if there is an update available it updates..

Firefox gives you the choice, and asks when you want it, and that's my main browser. There are reasons why sometimes I don't update. The problem with Chrome updating automatically is that it renders my profile useless. I've already turned off Google Updater in Win.Services, but it doesn't work.

I have similar issue = my Chrome doesn't update automatically unless I check it but I have no complaints about it either, I check all my browsers if there are any new updates once every week at the least.

But my dad's computer updates Chrome automatically it could be due to his antivirus Kaspersky (free version), which tends to update his outdated softwares automatically in the background. Since, I have an different AV so I can't vouch that its the only reason though.

There are some softwares which check for all the softwares updates in the background (nearly all softwares installed in the system are checked) & update them (if I recall correctly, you can manually update them or set them as auto-update). I did use Secunia for this purpose but they discontinued their services an while ago, so I deleted the software - didn't need any post that.

Thanks Good for your input but it's more a control issue then convenience and settling for what is a lack of control which as time goes buy seems to be less and less by the end user and more and more by the software authors.

I keep images in three different drives that I only connect when it's time to backup..
This isn't my first rodeo...
