    Chrome not using profile


    i recently set up a 2nd Win7 machine, a Gateway, with the intention of using that one for online work. I'll refer to them by brand.

    I can use only Chrome for work, so I went to chrome://versions to confirm profile location. I copied my profile from this HP to the Gateway. The newest version is 70, and Chrome was using only the bookmarks, not the rest of the profile, which includes Tampermonkey and many scripts.

    profile location: C:\Users\myusername\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default

    I uninstalled Chrome 70, pulled the ethernet wire, then installed v. 68, which also shows just the bookmark bar. I'm using 68 on this machine, and the profiles are now identical. Why isn't the profile the same? I'm not going to reinstall all those script and settings.

    This has been solved for me on the Chrome forum. Chrome profiles are customized to whatever machine they're installed in, unlike (unfortunately) Firefox. They must be synced or recreated from scratch on a 2nd computer.

I've changed the location of my Chrome user profile folder, and created a shortcut that opens Chrome with that profile. But how do I get Windows to open Chrome with this profile? At the moment, for example, a HTML file will open using the original profile location. Carl
