Thunderbird problem
i have been sending an email daily to a family member for a long time with my AOL address. No problem yesterday, but this morning when i try to send the message, i get the proverbial message to reenter my password. I know its correct, but now it keeps coming back to 'retry' again. Any ideas why this is happening?

Are you using the master password option to store the password?

No, i have never used master password in all these years i have using TB. Now, this morning I tried again and its really screwed up. As i was sending the family member the message, under the same email address, i see that another of my email address appeared, replacing the original one. I am at a loss at what i can do to get this fixed. Internet messages that i have come across keep asking for money, with no guarantee to fix this. I guess i have to find a way to delete TB, copy Profile before i do, but then i am assuming that my problem is more in my Profile, so possibly no chance of correcting my email address's that way..correct me if i am wrong. BTW, i have dual system, win 10, and have the same problem there. I do not know if this is a hacked job, a virus or what. Why would a virus effect both systems, in the same way? |

I have found that when you get strange requests for passwords etc. it is usually due to the settings not being exactly right to gain access to your Internet Provider. So recheck all the settings & speak to your IP to make sure they are right.

You can use safe mode and see if you still have trouble. Press and hold shift, while holding shift open Thunderbird and just chose safe mode.
You can copy your profile from the directory, C:\Users\{your_user_name}\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles Try this once. Copy everything in your profile and then copy/paste it into portable Thunderbird in the path: ThunderbirdPortable\Data\profile. Mozilla Thunderbird Portable (email) | PortableApps.com |

Safe mode will tell you if it's an add-on issue.
Before running a system restore, just backup your profile, uninstall Thunderbird with Revouninstaller, and then reinstall Thunderbird. Launch Thunderbird then close. Paste your profile files back in your Thunderbird profile folder. Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Free and Full Download - Uninstall software, remove programs, solve uninstall problems |

I don't see a freeware, just free download, and upon choosing that, it asks for money. I was told that a person can have more than one Profile for TB, so how does one add another Profile and how does TB know which Profile to adhere too? Yesterday i was able to send a message with my main problem email address, this morning, I can't, in fact, I receive emails but could not read them.

Are you talking about Revouninstaller? See where it says download free portable? Use that. Then do exactly what I said word for word. I have a felling your Thunderbird is messed up in some fashion. It could even be your profile.

Yes, it was the Profile....I have something to mention that may be the answer to problem of this kind. I came across reading that 'system restore' would only restore Windows and programs, but not emails. So I didn't go there. This morning I came across by mere accident in youtube where someone was demonstrating on how to restore missing files and folders. It said to go to window explorer, "right click" on the folder of interest and a list should appear of previous versions. Choose one of them of your choice, restore/copy it and then open it to make sure its the missing folder, etc. I did this to my profile and chose an earlier version, previous to my problems with it and now i am in the process of reinstalling it and see if it works. I don't doubt that it will, but haven't the time to do it at this writing...but if it works, then i am mentioning this so may be other users have had the same problem that i had and could use this method, instead of hours of trying and downloading programs that promise to fix it. I will get back to you and let you know. |
