Repairing Windows Live Mail 2012

Hi all,
Is it still possible to repair Windows Live Mail 2012, which despite its flakiness I still find useful. I seem to remember an option for repairing it, but I can now no longer find it.
I've tried reinstalling out of my program archives using wlsetup-all.exe and/or wlsetup-web.exe over the existing installation but still have the same problem. The installed program won't open and a long error message (in French, it's a French version) says there's something wrong with my bank of messages and that an anti-virus program is using it. A short while back the error message on trying to open WLM said there was something wrong with the calendar...

This problem did not come out of the blue. Over recent weeks Windows Live Mail had been locking up regularly, and then I would wait hours for it to download afresh all my old messages for the last three years.
I'm using a fully-patched version of Windows 7, and Microsoft Security Essentials for an anti-virus, though I did briefly have Avast's free program installed a short while back (somehow installed itself behind my back, so I removed it).
It's frustrating that neither Windows Live Mail nor the whole bundle of Windows Live Essentials shows up in Control Panel/Programs and their Functions so that one can un-install and then re-install it.
Should I finally just junk WLM and go for something else? How? Recommendations? I like to be able to read my AOL and different Orange accounts in the same program and be able to transfer messages from one account to the other...
Grateful any hints and insights,
Leachim

Look in Control Panel/Programs and Features > Right-Mouse click on "Windows Essentials", then select Uninstall/Change , followed by Repair all Windows Essential Programs

Hope that helps.

Is it still possible to repair Windows Live Mail 2012?

Thanks for the thought, but it doesn't help. Like I said in my original post, Windows Live Esentials (and its components) do not show up in the list of installed programs. Its functioning very badly, locking up all the time, downloading messages time and again.

is there a way of sorting it out, or even just of uninstalling it come what may, via the registry ? And then of course re-installing... ?

Hello laechim,

sorry I had omitted an explanation in my last post.

Windows Live Mail is part of Windows Essentials (which includes Windows Movie Maker, Windows Photo Gallery, Windows Live Writer, Windows Live Mail, Windows Live Family Safety and the OneDrive desktop app for Windows. )

So if you repair or uninstall Windows Essentials, then you would be repairing/uninstalling Windows Live Mail.

Hope that helps

Thanks, Iko,
Problem is, neither Windows Essentials nor any of its components is listed among the installed programs, when I got to Control Panel and then Programs and their functions...
That is why I asked whether there was way of un- and then re-installing or repairing via the registry...

I have virtually given up using Windows Live Mail and am using a webmail interface for email at present...
How does use of Thunderbird compare with WLM, anyone? I have in my prog archives version 52.4.0 which I've never installed....
TIA,
Leachim
