    Search Bookmarks

I use Pale Moon (90%), Firefox (7%) and IE (3%). I tried to keep my bookmarks organized but after years and years they are now quite all-over-the-map. I require a simple, for-dummies keyword 'search bookmarks' function, utility/app or procedure.

    -thx

I haven't used IE since 1998 but i think you can export the favorites from IE in HTML format. I know for a fact you can export and import in FF and PM in HTML format. You have to use HTML format in FF and PM to actually import (add as additional bookmarks) instead of overwriting the whole bookmark file.

In PM click the Bookmarks option | Organize Bookmarks. There is a search.

If you have the Classic Add-ons Archive add-on installed in PM, look for the add-on Bookmarks Checker.

In PM and FF when in the Bookmarks manager (Bookmarks -> Organize) at the top you;ll see Import Export.
In IE on the "Menu bar" click "File and in the drop down choose "import and export". IE exports to an *.htm file rename it to *.html to import into PM and FF. Rename PMs and FFs files to *.htm from the *.html to import into IE. I'm giving you a way to sync the bookmarks between all three browsers

If you just want to sync PM and FF you can simply copy and paste from one browser bookmark manager to the other.

Bill - that seems way too complicated and does not strictly address the op. I do not want to 'mix' each browser's bookmarks, which is what this seems to say to me (the dummy, remember?). I have my reasons for using the three browsers and keeping them independent from one another (and have you to thank for getting me on-board with PM).

There is no utility that I know of that would search all three browsers. PM and FF can both be searched from the bookmarks manager. AFAIK there is not a search option in IE Favorites.

FF bookmarks can also be dynamically searched from the bookmarks sidebar. Unfortunately, it doesn't show you where they're located (which bookmark folder), it just returns results. The "bookmarks Manager" is the same.

You can also tag your bookmarks in FF for keyword searches.

You can right click the bookmark and select "Open containing folder".
